Classic Menu ReviewEssential navigation tool - Version: 2.8.1, 1/25/2009 01:36AM PST

I have used this ever since Apple discontinued its own drop-down hierarchical file navigation system, and by now I coudn't function without it. By simply clicking the mouse ONCE, and holding it down, you can navigate up and down anywhere you want, through your entire hard drive, into folders and out of them again, until you find what you need.

You can no longer do this with the Mac OS as Apple constantl dreams up new, ever more cumbersome and wrist-breaking ways to navigate through the file system.

Apple made a terrible mistake when it discontinued this wonderful drop-down menu system, and Sig Software deserve a lot of credit for bringing it back. I couldn't live without it.

I LOVE IT! Looks totally fantastic! Even works with old renamed relocated Fruitmenu folder if you want. I can get rid of all those hideous stacks in my Dock now. Price not too bad. Did I mention that I love it?

Very useful application, and very stable. Much like the OS 9 apple menu...can customize and access everything from the apple while within applications. I would like to see would be the ability to place things in the customized classic menu in any desired order, as it now only sorts the menu alphabetically. But I love it, nonetheless, and use it all the time. This app seems to be less "intrusive" than the other similar apps that I've tried, also. It's a "go" for me.

Classic Menu ReviewMust have for those missing the old Apple Menu - Version: 2.7.3b, 9/14/2004 11:01AM PST

I love it! The one thing I missed most when upgrading to OSX was my Apple Menu. I launched everything through that menu. Classic Menu gives it back to me. I have two partitions and have put an alias to both under Classic Menu which lets me reach anything on my volumes.

Great little product.

Classic Menu CommentaryWhat about XMenu? - Version: 2.7.3b, 7/15/2004 10:02AM PST

I use XMenu, which is free, customizable, and works very well.
Another alternative is Butler, which is shareware, but offers much more.
I can't see what the plus of Classic Menu would be - moreover, XMenu does not get in the way of the X apple menu ( as I seem to remember from long ago about Classic Menu, but I'm not sure now anymore whether it still applies).

Cobra, just try it. They are two different animals. This brings back the classic apple menu on the left. Apple's classic status menulet lets you turn classic on and off (and it offers you access to the classic envirnoment's apple menu, which would be populated with classic preferences, apps, etc). There is a real need for this kind of thing. The debate below doesn't argue against the concept. Many users simply prefer to get the more extensive functionality of FruitMenu. I have FruitMenu, but it does me little good when I'm inside BBEdit or Mailsmith, because it refuses to launch apps from the apple menu. That's why I'm trying out Classic Menu. It would be nice if it offered more than just alphabetical control of entries in it, but otherwise seems fine.

I'm sorry maybe this app does a little more than I know, but what the difference between using this app and just going to the System Prefs/Classic and checking the little box "Show Classic Status in Menu Bar?

Classic Menu ReviewFruit Menu, whatever - Version: 2.7.3, 7/14/2004 05:41AM PST

Classic Menu is great, Fruit thing is great, too. I've tried them both. I like Classic Menu. It does just what I want, it's a great price, and i can make my little Apple menu icon pretty colors without getting into themes.

Thanks for the update!
