to find a basic CAD/CAM program for the Mac OSX and it is very surprising how few choices there are. While I have not made a final decision I will say that the customer service of Hot Door has been outstanding. Because it is a plug-in and not a stand-alone program, it presents some problems to make it fully functional in demo mode without forking out the $199.00. However, they offer a 90 money back no questions asked trial, so overall it's worth looking at if your already working in Illustrator.
Been using it…

for about 2 years. CADTools & Illy combine to make some of the nicest part prints I've ever seen. Very well done. There are a few small issues I'd like to see resolved (related to updating data & layers) but nothing that would not stop me from whole-heartedly giving it 5 stars.
I spoke to a very helpful and friendly guy at the company, and he told me that if the next version of Illustrator comes out within 90 days of your purchase of CADtools, you'll get a free (or maybe reduced cost) upgrade, but otherwise you're out of luck, and you'll have to pay the full upgrade cost.
I find that a hard risk to bear, so personally, although I'm keen on the product, I'm going to at the very least wait out the next version of Illustrator - if I haven't in the meantime stumped up for a product (maybe like MacDraft) that will not be rendered redundant by a new version of the host program.
I know that these guys need to make a worthwhile return out of CADtools, and I certainly don't begrudge that to them, but from my position as a customer I find the risk of a big upgrade fee rather offputting.
