Product Description:

upCast enables you to use Microsoft Word as an authoring application for XML documents. Take advantage of the widespread availability and familiar user interface of Word or any other RTF savvy office application for structured document authoring. upCast offers a cost-effective way to reuse existing tools for gaining all the benefits of a standardized markup language: XML.

What's new in this version:

Support the \o option in the HYPERLINK field to include also a link's title attribute (QuickInfo).
[CSS] Support writing the next applied style after hitting return in Word using custom property "-ilx-following-style: ;" to match downCast support.
Support \t option for index entries (\xe) via an child element named "see". Styling is supported.
Some {\stylesheet ... } RTF constructions generated by other RTF writers than Word were not handled correctly. We now also differentiate between Paragraph and Character styles having the same internal number.
Spurious border property keywords were attributed to the left border. Now, they are (correctly) ignored, resolving an issue with a "border-left-style: none" override CSS property showing on downCast generated RTF files.
[XML Raw] , and elements did not have a namespace prefix when namespacing of upCast DTD elements was turned on.
URL specified sources for the XSLT processor get their parameter-indicating '?' quoted. This should not happen.

If you need to transform Word to anything useful, this is for you, its helped me many times on very big projects, good company, good program!!

Our Vienna-based organization needed a Word to XML converter and fast. This product was reasonably priced and the Word to DocBook converter fit the bill; it ditched most of the WordML crap while leaving enough for us to transform usefully.

The company seems to care about the product, offering good support and timely updates. This is definitely worth a look for anyone concerned with Word to XML conversion.

This might be useful for some document processing I need to do. Tried it out on a simple rtf file. The docbook output left rtf tags in the output (it says experimental, so I guess that's OK). The standard XML output seemed OK, but seemed to have less structure than could be obtained from the document. The problem was that the RTF file was left open And a huge chunk of my memory is gone after the program has quit. I guess I'll be putting this one in the trash...
