VueScan CommentaryJust Plain Good Stuff - Version: 8.5.39, 11/20/2009 08:00PM PST

After being frustrated from OS 10.6 rendering my HP Photosmart 2610 Scan Pro non-functional I started looking for alternatives.Including a new printer.

Unfortunately, all the all-in-one printer sites that I checked had the same solution to the buttons on the printer for scan not functioning after updating to OS 10.6/10.6.1/10.6.2 which was use System Preferences > Print & Fax > Scan. What a pain but it worked. I was looking for a quicker scan solution.
In Apple discussions it was suggested to try VueScan. I did and knew instantly that VueScan was better then all the solutions I had seen to this point.
After 5 minutes I purchased it. You know something is good when you see it. This was it.

Yeah it is not free. But check it out , you will buy it too.

Worth it to me.

Not frustrated anymore.

VueScan ReviewYou can't get better scanning software or customer support - Version: 8.5.38, 11/4/2009 06:49AM PST

I emailed Ed Hamrick late last night with a question and to my surprise, he emailed back within minutes! He answered my question and made a suggestion that I followed with great success.

Not only is the software great for photo scanning, but it's built-in OCR functions are worth the price by themselves. And the truth is that VueScan drives my Epson scanner better than the Epson does.

Do yourself a favor and buy VueScan. It's one of those software decisions that you never regret.

As a Production Artist, I need advanced features in a scanning software. VueScan has it--more customizable features than even I need. Plus, I just recently needed to contact Ed Hamrick about an old registration question and his customer service was outstanding--quick responses and a quick resolve.

VueScan Usage TipVueScan & Snow Leopard - Version: 8.5.29, 9/19/2009 09:31AM PST

The latest version does work with Snow Leopard and Ed Hamrick has been very helpful in determining why earlier versions had some problems. A tip - try deleting the vuescan.ini file which you can find at .../Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/vuescan.ini and ensure you are not running it in Rosetta. I think this product is truly excellent and Ed Hamrick is really helpful and keen to ensure his customers are happy.

VueScan CommentaryLove VueScan BUT 8.5.28 Crashes my MacBook Pro - Version: 8.5.28, 9/8/2009 01:41PM PST

I love VueScan BUT this last version, 8.5.28 Crashes my 13" MacBook Pro (June 09) using Snow Leopard. I was excited about it as it claimed to fix some problems with Canon scanners and I have the MP970 which is an all-in-one printer/scanner. Had to re-install the previous version which is working fine.

Hope what ever is wrong can be fixed soon.

VueScan CommentaryBest in class, beats Epson Scan hands down - Version: 8.5.16, 8/28/2009 07:43AM PST

After scanning quite a few old slides and negatives -- as well as a current crop -- with Epson Scan, I became more and more dissatisfied. Downloaded and tested quite a few others, including VueScan. It didn't take long for VueScan to emerge head and shoulders above the rest. The ease of use, as well as a host of ways to customize and adjust output, alone would make it a great buy. But the superior tonality it renders is amazing. And this is not something one has to A/B repeatedly to determine. It's clear at a glance. I have a batch of 35mm negatives my uncle shot from the mid-'30s to mid-'40, one with barely a hint of silver from underexposure. VueScan managed to rescue an image somewhat resembling a gray scale. Epson Scan rendered a Munster-like image. I'm in the process of rescanning earlier work with VueScan. btw, Hamrick's current site lists v.8.5.26 as 10.6 compatible, update free for owners of registered versions. No, I don't know Hamrick from Adam, but I'm always grateful to find superior products at very reasonable prices. Scanner: Epson 4990 Photo.

Not sure why it's not tested for 10.6 Compatibility and it's still not 64-bit.
