Product Description:

TWAIN for Mac OS X provides support for the TWAIN standard under Mac OS X, version 10.1.3 or later. Due to several of the issues discussed below, TWAIN for Mac OS X does not provide backwards compatibility with previous versions of TWAIN for Macintosh. The TWAIN Working Group has worked closely with Apple on this release to provide the best experience for TWAIN users on Mac OS X. Apple plans to ship the DSM as part of the system software beginning with Jaguar.

What's new in this version:

  • DS install location moved out of /System.
  • Callback messages wrapped in TW_CALLBACK structure.

TWAIN SANE (http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/): "This is a TWAIN datasource for MacOS X that aquires images using the SANE backend libraries. The SANE backend libraries provide access to a large range of scanners connected through SCSI or USB. For a complete list see the documentation on the SANE project homepage. It works with my HP SCSI scanner, and many people have reported success with a large number of different scanners. The feedback from users have helped the SANE developers to fix problems with various backends, so with each release of the SANE backends more of the MacOS X specific problems have been solved."

TWAIN SANE -- which is free -- enabled my old but reliable Umax Astra 1220S scanner (with a Belkin F5U541 SCSI to FireWire Adapter) to work brilliantly with Readiris Pro 11 OCR software on my PowerMac G5.

Download the TWAIN SANE installers and install in this order:

1 - libusb

2 - sane-backends

3 - TWIAN-SANE

Highly recommended!

I thought this applicayion might improve my scanning with my HP All-in-one running OS 10.1.5 on a G4 iMac, but I don't understand how to install it????

Any clues, would be welcomed.

the money. If Umax won't come to the party, then I'm off next door where the music's fine ... Guess what brand my next scanner isn't going to be!
