Discus Reviewgreat product - Version: 4.24, 7/21/2009 04:58PM PST

Boy I wish all produts were this simple; just a few files on the hard drive, doesn't touch the system or install patches or plug-ins or any other crud, and starts up in less than a second. I have Photoshop CS4 but when I want to whip out a label on my clever little DYMO DiscPainter, I can have a label printed by the time Photoshop has finished loading its 1000 plug-ins etc. Why do products have to evolve into 5000 files spread across 500 folders and are so delicate that the slightest re-arrange means a reinstall and then upgrading endlessly. I love the way Discus does its labeling job fast and easy and is ultimately very simple. I don't label every day and never read manuals so a product has to be simple for my taste and usage patterns.

I give it my highest recommendation.

Discus CommentaryThe Best as far as I'm concerned - Version: 4.23, 11/19/2008 07:23AM PST

I have tried most disc labeling programs out there and Discus is by far the best. I have been using Discus since it first came out and have never had a problem. Even though the interface is not exactly Mac like it is still intuitive and does the job extremely well.

Discus Commentary4.21 quits unexpectedly OS 10.4.11 - Version: 4.21, 5/23/2008 12:24PM PST

Have used Discus since version 2. When I dragged the 4.21 update to Applications, it overwrote 4.20 then wouldn't open. Could not get 4.20 back.
After several download/install attempts (from different sources) I had to reinstall 4.12 from the disk.
The ART file is in the same folder. Tech support has responded but after a couple of attempts to fix the problem the comment was "Yes, that's strange. Log says it seems to be in a loop of some kind." Have not heard from them in two weeks. Anyone have a workaround?

Discus ReviewExcellent Program - Version: 4.20, 3/8/2008 10:58AM PST

I have used Discus for several years to print on my inkjet printable CDs and DVDs. Although the interface is somewhat "un Mac-like" and it takes a little fiddling around to figure out how to use it, the results that it produces are excellent. Unlike others, I am happy to pay the upgrade fees for a program like this.

I have also had excellent experience with their tech support.

Discus CommentaryCAVEAT EMPTOR.... - Version: 4.20, 11/22/2007 12:32AM PST

....a phrase that is beautifully apt for those good folks at MightyMouse. It means "Buyer beware!!!" I'm not buying ANYTHING from this outfit without first receiving an ironclad guarantee that the product is not going to make my previous files obsolete.

Any of you who upgraded to Discus 3 will remember having paid good money for a product that should never have made it out of Beta. It took SEVERAL MONTHS for MightyMouse to wring the problems out and they did this on the money they obtained from suckers like me who trustingly upgraded to a product that wasn't ready to be put on the market.

In the same vein, they have now sent me an offer for Discus 4 upgrade that says: "If you are planning to get a DiscPainter, please send an email to support@magicmouse.com with the subject COUPON and we will email you back instructions on whatever special deal we arrange with DYMO." In other words, they have NO special deal and hope that if enough of their clients write in, they could PERHAPS cut one with DYMO. To me, it's just another example of their somewhat twisted thinking.

So....CAVEAT EMPTOR. I'm not buying anything from these guys without a hard and fast guarantee that what I'm buying is not (again) a pig in a poke.

Oh yeah, these guys are really smart too. They sent me an email that says: "If this email address for you is incorrect, please send your new email to sales@magicmouse.com with the subject new email, and be sure to include your older email address so we can figure out which one to update." If my email was wrong, how would I have received their message??? Duh!!!

I sincerely hope someone at Mighty Mouse reads this review. I don't even have the energy or desire to correspond with them on the subject.

Discus Troubleshooting Report"Art" missing - Version: 4.17, 10/26/2007 03:25PM PST

When I drag the Discus update to my Applications folder, and launch it, I receive an error message saying that the file "Discus.ART4" is missing, and requested me to move that file/folder in with the application. The problem is there is no "Discus.ART4" file or folder on my computer.
So I cannot launch the application.

Discus ReviewIt may be a One Trick Pony.... - Version: 4.16, 9/12/2007 02:55PM PST

SPI...master...
It may be a One Trick Pony....but it does that one trick supremely well and with infinite variation and excellent result. Once you learn its quirky interface you will come to appreciate the quality of this app. It may be pricey, but if you do any real quantity of disk labeling, you will recoup your investment in a very short time and be pleased with the results.

Discus CommentaryUpgrade price... - Version: 4.15, 8/30/2007 10:08AM PST

The actual upgrade price from version 2 or 3 is $30, according to the website. A bit pricey, considering that most of the supplied artwork appears to be the same as previous versions.

Discus CommentarySeems awfully pricey......... - Version: 4.15, 8/30/2007 07:51AM PST

.............for something that looks like a one-trick pony - even one with as many bells and whistles as this one appears to have. There's got to be something cheaper out there that works............

Discus Commentary Solid product getting better - Version: 4.12, 6/10/2007 09:09AM PST

I've used Discus for at least 5 years. Version 4 adds to it's functionality.

One thing I must say is that the guys over at Magic Mouse are very responsive to comments and suggestions about this software. They care tremendously about our user experience and are trying to improve the product to the best of their abilities and resources.

Buy the program, use it and enjoy it. The artwork library is fantastic. I was showing it to my 12 year old niece last week and she was blown away by the variety.

Please disgard any other posts you've seen by me on this site regarding Discus as I was caught up in user hell and have since had some great tech support from Ed at MM.

I highly recommend Discus 4.12.....
