BBEdit CommentaryStill the best... - Version: 9.2, 5/8/2009 07:37AM PST

Not sure what ftp issues were present in earlier versions, but I have no problems with working with BBEdit's ftp functions, although I typically use Interarchy for ftp.

When I need to get something done, and done quickly, BBEdit always comes through. I've tried out others, but BBEdit is the strongest and most comprehensive tool I've found.

BBEdit Troubleshooting ReportFTP really sucks! - Version: 9.1, 1/12/2009 04:17AM PST

OK, this is my first NEGATIVE report on BBEdit.
The FTP client is really really buggy!

If you work with a document opened via FTP, every time you save your work BBEdit open a new connection, not closing the ones already it opened.
So it happens that my server, which supports max 50 connections, after a few minutes of work stop accepting my savings.

And there's more and more.

Now reverting to 9.02, which I did not removed from my backups!

BBEdit Commentaryftp more broken than before - Version: 9.1, 1/11/2009 05:24AM PST

Wow -- this is my first negative experience with a BBEdit update in a very long time. They've completely watered down -- oh, make that 'Mac-like' -- the ftp preferences. No longer can I choose what kind of protocol. BBEdit conveniently chooses for me regardless.

And in doing so, they've crippled BBEdit. I can no longer log into webstar servers or other older ftp servers directly. BBEdit appears to log in successfully, but sends erroneous commands and cannot list files or directories.

Support requests to Barebones have gone without reply to date. I'll go back to 9.0.2 to be able to get my work done.

sad.

BBEdit CommentaryNew ftp a step back - Version: 9.1, 12/19/2008 06:08PM PST

The ftp bookmarks menu is now no longer accessible unless you disconnect and then click on connect making it more time consuming to switch between site, which I do a lot.
Also after upgrading I keep getting application errors and can no longer open or more often save changed files to the ftp server. Looks like I will have to wait for 9.1.1
Luckily I still had a copy of 9.02 and have gone back to it since with that version at least I can open and save files on the server.

What were they thinking? Or have I missed something? The new "Find" tool is totally unusable for me. No option for choosing multiple documents, for example. I, too, am reverting to v 8.

(But what does tim mean when he says "I'll continue to use 8 until Panic gets around to adding folding to Coda")

One star. Otherwise, v 8 continues to deserve five.

The following new features in Release 9 make a big difference in my work with html:
1. Projects
2. Auto-complete for html tags
3. Edit in search windows
For working with large web sites, nothing else comes close. This is a mature, powerful text editor.

Went back to 8. The new find killed it for me. It's totally unusable. I'll continue to use 8 until Panic gets around to adding folding to Coda.

Recently I have been getting a lot of spinning beach balls while typing?

Also I missing the "Start at Top" feature the find/replace used to offer.
