ATTO Configuration Tool CommentaryHow are we supposed to know - Version: 3.02, 5/13/2005 04:20PM PST

macdmcg
To Bob's snide remark, how are we supposed to know that buying an ATTO card from Apple with the same card model number and brand as you would from the manufacturer or one of its other suppliers is not exactly the same? No one at Apple or any of the literature even hints at a difference.

This was an expensive lesson to learn that Apple charges the same or more for these types of upgrades as the original manufacturer, but the customer gets a crippled product. In my view, this is misrepresentation.

Something is not right here. Either ATTO reduces the reputation of their brand under this scenario, or Apple disrespects its customers or both. Either way, the customers loose. In my opinion, for some of us who made this made-to-order upgrade, we feel cheated because these upgrades really only work for the privileged who happened to buy this product directly from ATTO instead or one of it's other suppliers and not Apple.

ATTO Configuration Tool CommentaryAtto stuff works fine on Atto cards - Version: 3.02, 4/13/2005 03:09PM PST

I do not understand why people complain that they have issues with Apple
cards and the Atto updates.

Talk to Apple.

Buy an Atto card, and you get things that work well, and excellent support.

ATTO Configuration Tool CommentaryOEM Card cannot be upgraded - Version: 3.02, 1/12/2005 04:18PM PST

I bought an OEM UL3D last year. I learned from ATTO tech support that the OEM card has no NVRAM chip. Therefore, it cannot be upgraded or configured. Basically this means that you can have 160 MB/sec bus, but no smart SCSI features such as command tagged queueing, etc.

ATTO Configuration Tool Troubleshooting ReportOEM card stopped upgrades - Version: 2.7, 10/14/2004 03:44PM PST

I sure wish ATTO would specify if or how those of us who bought Apple's ATTO version could upgrade the firmware. Even Apple's knowledge base is mute on this point.

My understanding is that any ATTO firmware upgrade will NOT work on an OEM SCSI card. Only Apple can upgrade these cards. If so, then why is it so hard to get this information?

ATTO Configuration Tool ReviewGreat Job - Version: 2.6.1, 5/23/2004 04:55PM PST

This in combination with the ATTO ExpressPCI UL3D released at the same time worked great. Everything on my G4 Digital Audio updated without a hitch. My driver and firmware are now current.

the confusion - I couldn't try it on my Apple F & W SCSIcard becaus the link only takes me to 1.1.1. If anyone can point me to a site with 1.6.4 on it or a similar Apple upgrade site, I will be very greatfull.
