Have been running Clamxav for some years on a Mac Pro & iMac 2Ghz C2D (& until recently, a 2Ghz black Macbook), the only issue I have ever had with this software was a few quirks linked to Clamxav Sentry and that was with a version 1 release. Installed the 2.0.6 update on the Mac Pro a few days back & just did the iMac - both updates without incident. Have launched sentry, run all the updates, did some scans & other assorted activities on both Macs - encountered none of the issues others have mentioned. Given that we Mac users still enjoy a relatively hassle free internet compared the Windows clan, I consider a utility like Little Snitch to be more important than virus protection. My thanks to the developer for giving us a little extra piece of mind & sparing us the pain of Norton & similar products.

The latest versions with OS 10.6.2 will periodically run the CPU at 100%. Many users alerted the developer of this. They started a number of threads on his forum.
At first, he denied this problem happens. Users posted logs. He did not respond to him.
Finally, he simply deleted the all of the comments.
Since the actual need for an anti-virus program for Mac is quite debatable--and generates reams of discussion on Mac/PC fora--there is little reason to tolerate such a flaw. There are just as "useful" programs out there where the developers respond to questions about serious design flaws--even a "we are working on it! Hold on! I do this in my spare time! Stop stalking me!" would be better than simply pretending the problem does not exist.

DEVELOPERS SHOULD DROP REGULAR EXPRESSIONS & IMPLEMENT A SIMPLE DIALOG TO EXCLUDE FILES !!! - Version: 2.0.5, 1/27/2010 06:06PM PST

I love ClamXav, and I thank the developers for making it free. I've been using it for over a year, and I think it works very well and doesn't use too many system resources most of the time if it's setup right (this comes from a former user of Norton AntiVirus 11 and 10, as well as McAfee products, so I have lots of experience futzing with antivirus apps to get them to use as few resources as possible).
However, I am convinced that the developers could VERY EASILY implement a preference to exclude individual files and whole directories through a SIMPLE FILE SELECTION DIALOG -- the kind used every day in almost every app on the planet. WHY MUST WE BE FORCED TO LEARN REGULAR EXPRESSIONS ???? Well I am NOT going to learn Regular Expressions. Not now, not ever. Why the hell do the ClamXav developers think people like me -- who are too cheap to buy an antivirus solution, and who are too uninterested or have too little time to learn a command line solution -- would spend the time to learn something as arcane and generally useless as Regular Expressions just so they can tell their antivirus software what files NOT to scan ????
PLEASE, ClamXav developers, DROP Regular Expressions, and implement a REGULAR, SIMPLE file/directory selection dialog to tell ClamXav which files and directories NOT to scan. Finally UNLEASH THE DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTION IN VIRUS PROTECTION THAT CLAMXAV IS CAPABLE OF (and dump your snooty attachment to Regular Expressions) !!!!
