Product Description:

aMule is an eMule-like client for the eD2k and Kademlia networks, supporting multiple platforms. Currently aMule (officially) supports a wide variety of platforms and operating systems, being compatible with more than 60 different hardware+OS configurations. aMule is entirely free, it's sourcecode released under the GPL just like eMule, and includes no adware or spyware as is often found in proprietary P2P applications. aMule is built upon the wxWidgets (formely wxWindows) toolkit, which enables it to support multiple platforms.

What's new in this version:

  • Adapted for newest support libraries, such as crypto++-5.6.0, GeoIP-1.4.6, etc
  • Several improvements in Kademlia routing
  • Fixes of rare, occasional and frequent crashes (just a joke, aMule never crashes )
  • ...and many many more...

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC

aMule ReviewIt can be made to work. - Version: 2.2.5, 6/7/2009 06:58PM PST

It didn't work out of the box for me, but I'm not familiar with this network.
Not even slightly Macintosh like. No menu bar. Copy and paste don't work in most places.
Not that bad once you get it going. The Kad search worked best
Found 3 copies of something I had been looking for without success on gnutella and bittorrent.
I'm only getting single digit KB/s download speeds at best.
Upload speed is whatever I set it to, so some people are getting good download speeds, just not me :-)

I'm not sure if I recomment aMule or not. VersionTracker won't let me leave that blank.
The best thing is that it connects to another independent network that is very much alive and well.

aMule Troubleshooting ReportTotally messed up download ATM - Version: 2.2.5, 6/6/2009 11:01AM PST

I've been trying to download v2.2.5 via various browsers with total fail:

"You don't have permission to access /pub/amule/osx/2.2.5/aMule-2.2.5-OSX10.4+.dmg on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

I am reporting the problem to them.

aMule ReviewThis version is a compiled binary. - Version: 2.2.5, 6/6/2009 10:28AM PST

The last couple of versions presented here were source only and not a precompiled and working binary application. That is what caused the problems for the previous posters. This version, 2.2.5, is a ready to use application and works fine. To answer the question "who uses this network?" let's just say a whole lot of people, which is what makes it such a rich source of material. I have only two minor complaints. One, that it can get a little out of control if the active queue is too big, but I may be abusing it a little bit, not really wanting to babysit it. It would be nice if it had a little more developed queue control, although it may be that the nature of this network and protocol makes this somewhat of an inherent weakness. My second little complaint is that the whole interface locks during searches, which sometimes take a little while when using Kad. Not a big deal, but is always disconcerting.
