Not Freeware, but a free product exists for the purpose - Version: 2.34, 8/17/2009 01:04PM PST

I suspect that paying the 30 bucks gets rid of the 5 host limit in the display window. The WEB site shows more than 5 hosts being displayed. Too spendy for me to test that theory :-(
A few warnings on the Console don't seem to matter:
2009/06/03 7:30:58 114-47-202-105 IP Scanner[12987] Warning *** NSTimer ignoring exception '*** -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (34) beyond bounds (34)' that raised during firing of timer with target 0x82be00 and selector 'doCountdown:'

program, works as advertised. I've used it on 2 G4 FW800 one running 10.4.11 the other 10.5.6 and now it's running on a Mac Mini, 1.83 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo also running 10.5.6.
My only wish is that we'd be able to see the info on more than 5 items, it's showing 15 items found on my network but only the first 5 have any information showing.

Each time I tried to use it, it just simple closed up on me and now won't even load. IP Broadcast is just the same. Despite sending gtwo emails to the distributors (10base-t.com), I'v ehad no confirmations of my emails, nor replies in regard to what "their" problem is.
It certainly looks like it would be an extremely useful tool, but unless it works properly, there is not much point of releasing it!
Recomendation: Not in it's current state. It certainly needs to actually work.

I thought this might be a quicker way to check who is connected to my network ---- info I can get in real time from my wireless router at any time with my browser.
It doesn't even do that.
Doesn't see beyond my router (or even into the router). It doesn't see anything but my Mac and the router. A DSL Modem, a printer and two other PC's are on the network. Apparently, (i'm guessing here because I did not pursue it any further) the companion IP Broadcaster needs to be installed ---??

Try WakeOnLan, which will provide an almost-as-good list, offers some additional capabilities, and it is freeware:
