viJournal is a nice application if all you're looking for is a place to keep a daily journal. In fact, it is far more convenient than some of the other popular journaling applications, like MacJournal and Journler, because it has all the features you need and few of the ones you don't need.
Once more, to be fair.

I gave version 2.0.2 another shot after reading jeremy's reply, and this time, things worked. I'm not sure why the procedures he's referring to didn't function when I first tried 2.0.2, but they do now. I still prefer viJournal 1.9; it's simply a visually more streamlined, cleaner implementation. The new design of the library with its arrows and subheaders is too spread out for me—I like to be able to see all the dates and descriptions at a glance, as is possible with the 'table'-like look of the library in 1.9, and for some reason I also like to have it on the right (perhaps there is a way to switch this around that I haven't discovered yet?). But these are mostly matters of my personal preference; to be fair, viJournal 2.0.2 is perfectly functional, and in terms of design and price still a better choice than its free or more costly competitors. So here's your stars back.

1. You can instantly expand the entire contents of a year or month right down to the level of sub-entries (sessions) by Alt-clicking on it. To do the same for an entire journal, Alt-click the bar at the top of the Entries list. This is Tip 3 in the "Tips & Tricks" section under the Help menu.
2. To change the title of a session, select it in the Library, then click it again to highlight it for editing. This is the same method used for renaming playlists in iTunes, mailboxes in Mail and bookmarks in Safari. You can find the method described in viJournal's Help in the section "Managing your journals, entries and sessions" > "Using Sessions".
