Product Description:

File Freak is a program that offers a new and better way to get at your files. Rather than navigating through several levels of folders in the Finder, or using Apple's relatively slow Sherlock search program, just start typing the name of the file you're looking for into the File Freak window. File Freak dynamically minimizes the matching list of files as you type. Then you have several commands at your disposal including open, move to trash, and open enclosing folder. Most importantly, File Freak gives you the option of only displaying the most recent copy of any files that have the same name.

What's new in this version:

  • Some files were not displaying their long file names correctly
  • The program would quit when displaying a file with a long file name that was no longer on the drive

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1
  • Mac OS X 10.0
  • Mac OS Classic

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS 9 - OS X

Small, light, fast - probably my most used app after the Dock and Finder!

I am confused by the comparisons to Launchbar as I don't see the two programs as competitors. They have complimentory functions. Launchbar, as the name suggests, is primarily a tool for launching things and it has an interface geared to keeping track of your commonly launched items. It also has some other complimentary functions like making aliases, acting as a shelf, etc. File Freak is geared towards finding/searching for files and it is excellent at this. It also has some complimentary functions to finding files. Launchbar is not a great file finder as all it really pays attention to is the filename. File Freak is not a great file launcher as it does not integrate into the interface cleanly as Launchbar does and it does not learn from your previous selections.

search function I thought I would not have any more use for File Freak... I was wrong. The user interface of File Freak is still easier to use, and more powerful. The only features I would like to see is, first, to have the option to enter the name for the search before the actual search starts. Secondly, the option to index local volumes EXCEPT CDs/DVDs would be nice.
