hi everyone!

Mike Romo from Symantec here. Just wanted to let you know:

1 - we released an update that addresses an issue where some users were getting kernel panics because of vulnerability protection. This is now fixed, you can turn Vulnerability Protection back on. If you have questions about the fix, please email me.

2 - Auto-Protect is no longer scanning Time Capsule volumes.

3 - We are working on an update where TimeCapsule was being scanned my MountScan. The reason this is happening is because even though it doesn't appear on the desktop, Time Capsule is actually mounting on your Mac, hence our scanning of it. Time Capsule came out after we released the product, so we have to update Norton AntiVirus to address this. For the time being, you can just turn off Mount Scan and it won't happen, or just press Cancel when the Mount Scan progress bar comes up. But, as I say, we have an update coming soon. The code's all checked in, we just have to build the updaters and test everything.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at mike_romo@symantec.com.

thanks,
mike

hey guys-

Mike Romo from Symantec here.

Just wanted to update you on what we've been up to with the problems people have reported here:

1 - Time Capsule - we are going to release a new version of the virus definitions (either today or tomorrow) that will fix the problems reported about backing up. If you are interested in the details of the fix, email me--it's kinda interesting.

2 - Kernel panics - we know which part of the code in our Vulnerability Protection that is getting tripped up. I have to tell you, it's taken us a very long time to reproduce this -- we basically scripted a few machines to visit thousands of websites left on for 24/7 since we heard about thisand we got it to happen I think 2 or 3 times. Anyway, we are continuing to investigate and I will let you know when we will have it fixed.

Thanks for your patience. If you want to reach me, please email me at mike_romo@symantec.com.

thanks!
-mike
