Readiris Pro Review50 Pages Limit with Pro Version - Version: 12.0.1, 10/10/2009 09:53AM PST

Beside that Readiris user interface is a mess, the fact it is totally unintuitive, Version 12 is buggy, like any other version Iris ever published for a Mac, it's a totally overpriced software. The Pro version is limited to 50 scanned pages per scan. If you want more pages, you will have to buy the Cooperate Version which is 400€. That is ridiculous. Some years ago Readiris was the only OCR program for the Mac, now there is more. They are cheaper, and they do the same or even better work.

Check EcxactScan. They support a number of scanners, like Avision or Fujitsu directly and you even don't have to use a twain driver. If you scanner is not supported directly it uses your twain driver. Price is about €100, some like Readiris Pro. And there is no 50 page limit.

I did do the ripoff upgrade from 11.5 and the first problem I had was having to open the program the first time from an Administrator account because it wouldn't open from my User account (it would be nice if they told you that).

After that, the program works pretty much like 11.5 but faster. It did crash a couple of times before I learned to use it correctly but it seems to do pretty much what it is supposed to which is Scan and OCR. Granted I haven't tested it with a long project just a single page or two.

No, I don't like the interface which feels very much like a port and is completely "UnMac" but as others have noted, its pretty much the only game in town. I wonder why that is? Is this such a specialized market that nobody wants to jump in?

I keep receiving their emails almost on a daily basis. It says there "If you wish not to receive any more information and special offers from I.R.I.S. simply send an email to newsletter@irislink.com with the word "remove" as subject." I have followed this simple instruction several times by now, but always get "Delivery has timed out and failed". So let me tell them publicly: I am not going to buy your product at its present quality, and with the bad support reported here. Please leave me alone.
