par2formac Usage Tippar2formac still works but... - Version: 1.0, 10/22/2009 03:18PM PST

Windgazer
Previous feedback seemed to indicate that the tool wasn't operating anymore under later versions of OSX. However, as of this writing, I can report the tool still works just fine under OSX 10.5.8 with two caveats:
  1. You must draganddrop your par2 file onto the app-icon, the menu's are indeed greyed out, as mentioned before.
  2. The par2formac must be on a path without spaces or other special characters in the name. It seems to use an unquoted reference to itself and this breaks when your path has spaces, or possibly other special characters.
Problems such as what I mentioned for the second caveat are reported when the app opens, just read the dialog carefully :) I agree, the interface is crude, but hey, the tool works! It just saved me from having to wait for the last 4 Gig of a huge database dowload!

I've used this app for months with no issues at all. I'm even currently running it on 10.5.6 without any issues. It might not be fancy but it does what it claims to do

After a spell of not needing this app's services, I returned to it today in OSX 10.5.6. Now, this app seems to be broken too, just as happened with MacParDeluxe.

I dragged a Par2 file onto the app and a silly window opened. It exhorted me to "drop .par2 file on the application icon..." which, of course, is what I had just done. There was only one option for proceeding: "Quit". Very helpful!

The rest of the exhortation was: "... or use this app to open .par2 files." Yes, there is a menu item "open" but it's greyed out!

In short, forget this tool.
