Product Description:

ViaCAD combines unprecedented ease of use with an extensive collection of 2D/3D modeling tools. Choose to design with curves, NURB surfaces, or feature based solid modeling tools. If you are working with imported data, use the local face operations to perform operations on solids independent of a history tree. ViaCAD supports advanced modeling operations not found in a package at this price point including variable radius blends, chamfering, shelling, bending, and twisting to create complex yet precise (not facetted) shapes.

For 2D users, ViaCAD provides a large collection of drafting tools including lines, arcs, ellipses, conics, and a variety of spline types. Use the chamfer, fillet, trim, and break tools to further modify 2D geometry. ViaCAD also provides unique tools for automatically creating 2D drawings from 3D parts. These tools include the ability to create sections, auxilary, and detail views. For annotation, ViaCAD supports over 24 dimension types and a variety of dimensioning standards.

Share your data using the extensive export options that include DXF/DWG R12-2009, STEP, IGES, Rhino 3D(.3dm), Adobe Illustrator V6(.ai), OBJ, and SketchUp. Use the STL export option to share data suitable for rapid prototyping.

New users to 3D modeling will appreciate the 80 minutes of training videos included with ViaCAD as well as the step by step PDF notes. (Trial version contains limited videos to minimize download size)

ViaCAD 2D/3D ReviewNothing else out there for Mac OS X, to touch it! - Version: V6, 7/8/2008 08:05AM PST

HerrFunken
I don't know what this last reviewer is on about? I use ViaCAD almost everyday. Yes it does crash from time to time- about once a month actually- but no where near rendering it 'useless'.

If you are looking for a more cost effective alternative to Solidworks, on Mac OS X too, this is the place to start. ViaCAD will even talk with Autocad and Pro Engineer and will now sucessfully output OBJ files, which are useful for more generic modelling apps such as 3DS Max. It is worth also mentioning that ViaCAD uses the same Spatial kernel used in many of those PC-only apps. At $99 you can't really go wrong, but you'll probably want the parametric constraints that VC's big sister Shark FX has got. However, where it stands, ViaCAD V6 is already a powerful engineering quality technical modelling system, and is in my opinion, worth every penny.

ViaCAD 2D/3D Reviewpromising, but... - Version: V6, 7/1/2008 10:02AM PST

I have used ViaCAD v5 for quite some time, until PunchCAD released an update last February that rendered the software useless... Now Version 6 is here and its looks good and feels fast, yet very unstable on OS X Leopard.
