Product Description:
Avogadro is a user-friendly molecule builder and editor. It offers flexible rendering and a powerful plugin architecture for developers. The program supports interactive building of molecules with integrated molecular mechanics and a fragment database. Input generation for GAMESS or Gaussian calculations is provided. For visualization, the program supports crystallographic unit cells, isosurfaces and orbitals from Gaussian cubes and OpenDX.
What's new in this version:
- Orbitals are cleared with the rest of the molecule.
- Orbitals engine can now display the size of the cube being rendered.
- AutoOpt tool now displays the energy as it optimizes.
- Quick render functions added to sphere engine and surface display types.
- Large speed improvement to the surface rendering.
- The manipulate tool now works much faster than before.
- Several bug fixes for the "Insert Fragment..." dialog. Insert smiles available again.
- More robust adjust hydrogens feature, still not perfect.
- Improved unit cell dialog.
- Conformer energies are now displayed.
- Python extension now searches for system wide scripts too.
- Gaussian input deck generator now uses extender for preview.
- Gaussian input deck generator now supports z-matrix output.
- GAMESS input deck dialog reduced in vertical size to accommodate smaller resolutions.
- Export of graphics dialog improved.
- Add engines now adds the engine selected (previous bug caused random engine to be added with name selected).
- Plugin version bumped to 1.1, will prevent stale plugin files from being loaded.
- Fixed several possible crashes and added additional checks to improve stability.
- Many, many bug fixes and small enhancements.

There is a problem with the sourceforge link to the download at the moment. The download link on the developer's site is working well.

This looks like it might be a useful tool. However, I hit full screen mode, and now cannot get out of it, even with a restart. The full screen/ normal toggle does not work.
My system:
iMac G5 (1.8 GHz), 2 GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.11 (fully updatred with all current patches)
Perhaps there is a problem with the software or that it requires either Mac OS X 10.5 or a different version of Python installed than the system installs by default?
Either re-state system requirements or fix the problem.
