Appication showed up briefly in menu bar, then crashed "unexpectedly"!
so, i was hopeful in trying this burn software. but compared with other offerings, it comes up somewhat lacking.
my simple attempt to hit the "Copy Disk" button at the top resulted in an almost instantaneously disappearing "Locating Burners" dialog (with no buttons) followed by a choose-burner dialog. this process starts the drive working, but it is always 8-10 seconds before anything is clickable. if you navigate away (for instance back to the browser or finder), the dialog rudely re-presents itself after the 8-10 second delay. at this point in the Copy Disk process, i hit "OK", it asked me for a file in a regular mac file-dialog ... then did nothing.
admittedly, i have the freeware version and was blissfully unaware that the Advanced features are only available in the pay-for version ... and continued to be so unaware even as i attempted to use these features, because no dialog was ever presented telling me i needed to upgrade to use these features. i discovered this in the documentation (which really wasn't half bad, nor was the bubble-help) after trying to figure out if i was doing something wrong.
aside from these failures in my primary quest, there are other major quirks with the software:
- from a mac-user standpoint, it's disturbing that all key-shortcuts are control-key based, not command-key based. from a 4.x version of the product, i'm not convinced they're all that mac savvy.
- the "locating burners" dialog appears for lots of reasons, and always hangs the app for 8-10 seconds. when one chooses "preferences", one gets the "locating burners" dialog, then the burner-choice dialog, replete with full delay. that's the only preference.
- "customize -> use small icons" does not. another indicator this is not mac first software.
all-in-all, my failures with other burn utilities were much more promising than this one was. i probably won't be coming back to try it again in the next rev.
