Product Description:

Thoughts or ideas can come to us at any time. If you're like me, perhaps you jot these down in text files and clutter up your desktop.

Scribblet is my answer to this problem. It is quick to open - as it conveniently runs in the menu bar - and an uncluttered interface makes it simple to use.

Please do e-mail me with your comments and suggestions, bug reports and questions. Thank you.

What's new in this version:

  • Updated and redesigned the Help file.
  • Changed the visual appearance of the Preferences window (e.g. renamed and reorganised settings, removed descriptions, etc).
  • Added a 'Shortcut also closes Scribblet window' setting to the Preferences window.
  • Updated the Sparkle framework to version 1.5b4.
  • Added an 'Application checks for new versions' setting to the Preferences window.
  • Removed the 'Check for updates automatically' window, which displayed on second launch (various reasons behind this).
  • Added character support for Function keys (F1 to F12) on the menulet menu and in the shortcut text box in Preferences. These keys did still work in previous versions, however.
  • Changed the global keyboard shortcut, which opens the Scribblet window, to Command + ยง, as the previous default conflicted with a popular system shortcut.
  • Fixed inability to (easily) customise the global keyboard shortcut if 'Full keyboard access' is enabled. You can now click on the shortcut text box before pressing a key.

Scribblet CommentaryLet me try it first.. - Version: 1.2.1, 7/3/2008 03:40AM PST

Seems competitive but NOT with SideNote but with Check Off and some widgets.
Quickier than the widgets but having only a note (why the sidebar then?).
Check Off seems to be a better compromise but.. too soon to express a definitive rating

I could use a program like this. However, there is only one font size (pretty tiny) one page color (white) and one font (arial? or some such) one font color (black) and one font style (regular). You get the idea. I fear I have been spoiled by programs like sidenote which has options galore and is also free. I could just use something simpler than sidenote, but not quite as bare bones as Scribblet. Thank you for your programming efforts, though.

Scribblet ReviewA likable little utility... - Version: 1.0.2, 5/17/2008 08:43AM PST

I've only been using Scribblet for around a week and already find it helpful for storing little snippets of data/code etc while I work. The interface is clean, no-nonsense and minimal (which I like) and the menu icon is nicely unobtrusive.
The only issue I have at the moment is that I cannot quit Scribblet from the Scribblet menu, instead I am forced to run Activity Monitor and 'Force Quit' from there.

Would be nice to see this little blemish, in an otherwise very handy little utility, fixed.
For the record, I am running Scribblet on a PPC(G4) Tiger (10.4.11)
