Product Description:

Whether you are a printing and graphic communication industry professional, need to prepare a PDF document to your print-shop's specifications or dabble with PDF documents at home, chances are PDFClerk will help you get the job done more easily and efficiently. PDFClerk enables a multitude of transformations on your original PDF documents as well as creating PDF documents from scratch. Features include: adding blank pages; rotating, deleting and reordering pages; bookmarks; marking up documents; powerful document merging and splitting options; flexible user definable imposition options (including step & repeat) for preparation of any kind of book, flyer, magazine or other publication (there are even factory provided imposition layouts for right-to-left reading languages); editing and creation of hyperlinks; (re)definition of PDF display boxes; proofing and finishing marks; creating PDF forms; scripting; many more features.

What's new in this version:

  • New: Outlines are now scriptable.
  • New: PDF actions are now scriptable.
  • New: Option to apply a filter when exporting to PDF or bitmaps. (So you can now produce PDF-X or reduce file size, etc.) .
  • New: Application preference to open the most recent document on startup. This option overrides the "open untitled document" option when activated and is on by default.
  • New: Imposition templates can now be duplicated in the impositions editor.
  • New: Text on a page can now be directly accessed in scripts (e.g: "first paragraph of page 1").
  • Changed: Removed the file type selector from the save panel. The proper way to choose what kind of file to write to disk is by either saving (type:PDFClerk) or exporting (type:PDF).
  • Changed: When ending editing of a text box by clicking outside the box, the text box will now remain selected (unless the click is on another object: then that object will be selected instead). This makes it more convenient to nudge text boxes after entering text.
  • Changed: Progress info sheets during save and export now provide improved feedback.
  • Fixed: Corrected an oversight that could cause a PDFClerk Pro file to fail to open under certain circumstances.
  • Fixed: Corrected an error when saving a PDFClerk document with rotated pages to disk, that could cause those pages to have missing parts upon the document being read back in.
  • Fixed: Resolved off-by-one scripting issue in the page ranges argument of the Export command. If your scripts work around the issue up to now, you'll need to remove the work-around. (The range indexes are now one based, instead of 0 based).
  • Fixed: Resolved a crash that could occur when saving large documents to disk in demo mode.
  • Fixed: Resolved an issue with QuickLook when saving imposed documents to disk.
  • Fixed: Several corrections to the inspector panel when inspecting outline actions. (E.g. it now updates when an outline is selected while the caps lock key is down.).
  • Fixed: Corrected issue with annotation inspector when a button widget has no caption.
  • Fixed: Progress indicator when saving to bitmaps now works again.
  • Fixed: Some watermark issues related to changing and syncing to source.
  • Fixed: A glitch when placing an annotation on the page by dragging, where the feedback rectangle would not match the drag.
  • Fixed: Corrected an issue where copying a static annotation and pasting it to another page made the pasted annotation uneditable.
  • Fixed: When copying pages between documents using thumbnail views, the page list would not reflect the changes.

PDFClerk Pro ReviewAn excellent PDF editor - Version: 3.5.1, 2/28/2009 07:22PM PST

Like others, I want to commend Antonio Nunes for exceptional support. With any problem, I comment in the fourm, and get a response with extraordinary swiftness. As a pdf editor PDFClerk is a great value. One feature that is unique, as far as I know, is the ability to generate bookmarks from a table of contents. I need to review pdf documents extensively and most of them come to me without bookmarks. I can add them one at a time in Acrobat, but with pdf clerk I can generate them far more quickly from a table of contents and/or lists of tables and figures.

PDFClerk Pro ReviewSome interface issues. - Version: 3.5, 1/20/2009 09:55AM PST

There are some interface issues that make this less than perfect. almost all limitations listed here make it really difficult to create forms. particularly:
- no grouping - When creating forms, you usually want to group elements and duplicate and move them en-masse. can't do it in this program..
- Can't select across "layers" Makes it really a pain to copy a static and dynamic element (like the name of a field and the field itself, along with any graphics.
- no 'grid'. means lots of tweaking
- no Alignment across layers.. Want to center text within a box? can't do it.

At least the functionality it does have works well.

PDFClerk Pro ReviewGreat product with excellent support - Version: 3.4.3, 12/19/2008 01:00AM PST

I'm sorry, but I just have to react to what is to me an obviously unfair comment.

It is quite possible the user who wrote "careful with this" experienced a hang, but I have not had problems saving PDFClerk documents. The rest of his claims about the software are nonsense though: PDFClerk offers several different PDF export options, and the option to save intermediate results in its own file format allows for much needed flexibility. It's a plus, not a minus. I'm never forced to use a particular format. I can pick and choose as the situation requires, it being equally easy to use either format. And, just like with the earlier commentators, I've been met with excellent customer support: fast and efficient.

I once was working on a pdf using PDFClerk and needed some functionality that was not there and contacted the developer. Within a couple of days he had added it.

The developer is obviously eager to help. Make sure to read the developer's reply to the previous commentator's claims, and you'll see that even his claim of flatly being denied a refund is not true. Based on my previous experiences with this developer, I have no doubts his comments reflect what actually happened. There are not many PDF editors around that offer great functionality at a great price, but this is certainly one of them, and I have a hard time imagining anyone being unfairly treated by this developer.

PDFClerk has saved me a lot of time in many occasions and I feel fortunate being able to use this product that continues to grow from strength to strength with such an engaged and supportive developper behind it.
