Product Description:

Knapsack is the personal travel organizer for Mac OS X Leopard which gives users the tools to plan, organize, and relive their travel adventures. Version 1.0 is the first major release and offers many user-friendly features including map pins with location postcards, a flexible itinerary planner, trip checklists, and professional-looking printed itineraries.

Just as someone might stick a pin on a map to mark a spot they've visited, users can place pins on the world map in Knapsack to represent locations from their trips. Users can revisit all the places they've been simply by clicking on any pin to see a postcard from that location. A single click in the postcard opens a Google map of that place in the world. Reliving trips has never been so fun and organized.

Planning a trip is as easy as drag and drop. With flexible itineraries, users can shuffle activities between days or even rearrange entire days. They can copy and paste important activities and checklists within or even between trips. Knapsack also helps simplify planning by allowing users to duplicate one of their existing trips to use as the starting point for a new one.

When returning from a trip, users can add notes about what they liked or didn't like and create a memory of their trip. By rating trips from zero to five stars, users can sort their trip library by their favorite trips, keeping their most treasured travel adventures at the top of their list.

Users can stay on top of their trip through all stages of travel planning by using checklists to help remember important items before, during, and after a trip. As a trip is planned, users can keep track of all unfinished business by creating checklists for packing, shopping, or lists of things to do. When it's time to depart, users can print professional-looking itineraries to take with them or share with anyone around the world via email.

Knapsack is built from the ground up on Apple's latest technology and will continue to advance with every new version of Mac OS X. Version 1.0 is a major new release that includes a host of great features:

I would like to have a software to plan trips. But then the map would need to be much better and the software would have to support typical travel activities and topics (flights, car rental, hotel etc.). I could not ind out what kind of additional value this software would give. It's a simple editor not much more.

I am one that likes to plan out trips well in advance, and also revisit past trips, so this program caught my eye when I first saw it. I've been playing around with this for the past couple of days, and though fun and easy to use, there are a couple of things I think (though I am not a developer) the developers might want to consider.

Firstly, the map used in Knapsack looks awful when you zoom all the way in. I'd prefer them to use Google Maps instead (though there is a link that takes you to Google Maps), or something more detailed. There were multiple activities I pinned in Paris, and it's not possible to pick specific activities from the map without having to click the horde of pins multiple times until you find the activity you're looking for. It'd be nice if you could get in closer to specific areas (ala Google Maps) on the map so you can plan or access more specific memories. Also, since the pins ask you for longitudinal and latitudinal positions, it'd be swell if you could search for specific places (cities, restaurants, etc.) within Knapsack, instead of having to find the information somewhere else.

Secondly, I wish you could add photographs for each activity in the itinerary. It would also be nice if you could add multimedia to activities as well. For example, I have a short video I made of the Eiffel Tower lighting up and would love to be able to access it from the itinerary. This would help "re-live" old trips.

Those are the two major things that come to mind. I'll keep playing with it during the trial period, and then I'll decide whether to buy it or not.
