Microsoft Office 2008 Commentary12.2.3 is hot sauce... - Version: 12.2.3, 11/24/2009 04:39AM PST

NickCollingridge
There must have been a ton of fixes in 12.2.3 that MS didn't announce, because I have personally found Office 2008 after installing 12.2.3 to be much more responsive than it was previously. Everything is pretty snappy now, even things like copy/paste which was extremely slow in Excel prior to the update. Finally the suite is fully usable - but how ridiculous that it took so long from its first release to get here? It certainly doesn't encourage me to buy the next version when it first comes out...

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Microsoft Office 2008 CommentaryStill does not support XPS, and still not 64-bit! - Version: 12.2.3, 11/20/2009 11:40AM PST

How is it that Microsoft doesn't support their own XPS file format in Office 2008?!

See:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/xps/viewxps.mspx

64-bit Office is still nowhere to be found...

Microsoft Office 2008 Troubleshooting Report12.2.3 Update can't be installed on this disk. - Version: 12.2.3, 11/11/2009 04:59PM PST

David Virshup
Word has been crashing regularly since Snow Leopard came out. I hoped this Update would help but *** IT WON'T INSTALL**. I have Word 2008 Business (upgraded from 2004). The message I get from the Update Installer is "A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

It directs me to a non-existent web page at microsoft.com/mac/help.mspx claimed to be labeled
"I can't install Office 2008 for Mac updates"

Thoughts? Last thing I want to do is un-install and reinstall 2004 then upgrade and then update. Other things to do in my life - like learn to use Pages...

Microsoft Office 2008 ReviewThe 1223 update broke Entourage - Version: 12.2.3, 11/11/2009 04:55PM PST

The download of the 1223 updater completed OK, as did the installation. But Entourage can no longer retrieve my various POP server passwords from my Snow Leopard Keychain. And when I re-enter them, they don't get saved in the Keychain. So every time I run Entourage I have to enter all my passwords again.
ARRRRGH!!!!!

Microsoft Office 2008 ReviewWorks Fine - Version: 12.2.3, 11/11/2009 09:15AM PST

I'm not a fan of MS and I use Nisus Writer Pro for most of my college papers, but MS Office 2008 has matured into a decent product. I see none of the v12.0 slowness or problems. Updates always work fine (they didn't when I used a "demo" version).

BTW, I purchased MS Office 2008 for $19 (via MS's Home Use Program) so that probably makes it a great value for me, not sure if I'd be so happy if I'd paid full price but everything works as advertised.

Microsoft Office 2008 Usage TipThe Office folder needs to be in the Applications Folder - Version: 12.2.3, 11/10/2009 06:57PM PST

I had it in the Applications folder, but in another folder where I keep all my word-processing applications and the updater couldn't find it. When I removed it from the secondary folder and placed in the top level of the Applications folder it updated fine.

Installation went well. Initially, when checked with Get Info, it showed previous version number. But when checked a second time, all of the components showed the update. Haven't tried to use it yet.

Microsoft Office 2008 Troubleshooting ReportVerification Error - Version: 12.2.3, 11/10/2009 12:24PM PST

I'm getting a verification error with this dmg. I'm using 10.6.2, and have tested the verification of previous updates, Office2008-1219,20 and 21 just in case it was a Finder issue. All previous versions seemed to verify and mount ok. This version mounts and installs ok if verify is skipped. But here, the dmg verify fails and in my case locks up the Finder.

Microsoft Office 2008 ReviewPossibly THE worst software ever written for OSX - Version: 12.2.1, 10/19/2009 09:08PM PST

Steve Good
Slowest to open.
Slowest response for typing - often misses what I have typed.
Buggy, and crashes often for no apparent reason.

The best feature of Word, which was macros has actually been removed, making this worse than Office 2003.

It's hard to imagine anybody writing software this bad without actually trying ... oh ! maybe that was the point.
