I like this app so far (I haven't tested it yet for CPU usage, etc.) and it does show whether or not your file sharing is on and it will directly open up your sharing prefernces, but at least in 10.5.4 I was not able to get it to actually turn on file sharing through its menu selection. Otherwise, seems to work fine as at least a nice shortcut to turning on & off sharing and is a nice way to know if you've accidentaly left your sharing on or not, etc.
same thing here, under 10.5.7: file sharing's off; i select "enable file sharing" from the AFPStatus menu, enter my admin password, and the little face in my menu bar goes from frowning to smiling...but when i open my Sharing pref pane to make sure he's not smiling about nothing, it turns out he is: file sharing is still off.
also, i'd like to be able to use the voice alerts to let me know when people connect and disconnect, but each event is announced multiple times, and when each announcement includes an IP address, that gets really annoying really quick.
it would be nice to be able to selectively disconnect users without disabling file sharing, if that's possible.
it would be nice to be able to disable file sharing from the menu - and have it actually work - whether there's a client connected or not. you can do it in the Sharing pref pane, so why should AFPStatus prevent it?
finally, a bigger selection of icons would be nice. i appreciate the color and animation of the faces, but i'm not crazy about the faces themselves - they never were my favorite Mac icons - and the other icon - whatever it is - is too uninformative for my tastes.
overall though, i like AFPStatus a lot. i really appreciate being able to see at a glance that people are connected to my machine. i've always been bewildered at Apple's providing first a weak means, and now no means, of accessing that very relevant piece of information.
