Product Description:

Keywurl adds functionality to Safari similar to the search functionality in Firefox and Opera. Type a keyword and a query in the address bar, and it will be expanded into a predefined search.

What's new in this version:

v1.3: This minor bug-fix release addresses some encoding issues, and ensures that keywords cannot conflict with domain names.

New in v1.2:
  • Default keyword. The keyword "default" (if it is defined) is now invoked when no other keyword matches. Google is included as an example. For example, typing "Paris Hilton" in the address bar will now invoke a Google search. Keywurl uses a simple heuristic to determine whether something is a legitimate host name (eg., cnn.com) or something that should be expanded: If what you entered contains only a single word consisting of alphanumeric characters and at least one dot, it's considered a host name and ignored.
  • Single-word expansions. You can now create convenience aliases – for example, if you add the keyword "sd" with the expansion "slashdot.org", you can enter just "sd" in the address bar to go there.
  • Added per-keyword character encoding setting. Some sites (such as imdb.com and amazon.com) require Latin 1 encoding for URLs. This fixes such sites.
  • Added per-keyboard space encoding setting. Some sites require that spaces are encoded as "+" instead of "%20". This fixes such sites.
  • The configuration file format changes in this version, breaking backwards compatibility. If you want to be able to downgrade, make a backup first.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Additional Requirements:

  • Safari 3.0 or higher

Keywurl Review1.4b6 is now out - with Safari 4.0 final support! - Version: 1.4b5, 6/12/2009 06:04PM PST

I've been dying these last few days without Keywurl. I upgraded to Safari 4 final without first checking to see Keywurl compatibility. I've felt like Safari is useless ever since. You can find the latest version at the developer's website.

Keywurl Troubleshooting ReportExcellent, until Safari 4 post beta :( - Version: 1.4b5, 6/10/2009 01:22AM PST

I *loved* keywurl with safari 4 beta. Worked like a charm. But now that they've upgraded to 4.0 (non-beta), SIMBL turns it off. Anyone know how to disable that?

Keywurl Troubleshooting ReportNot working right - Version: 1.4b3, 2/25/2009 05:34PM PST

Even with this new beta update, I can't get it work properly in Safari 4b1. It comes up in the preferences and I can add search engines, but the expansions do not work at all. Anyone else had this trouble with Safari 4?
