Product Description:

BootPicker runs whenever LoginWindow is present. Based upon your configuration, it presents an option to the end user to choose an operating system. Upon choosing that OS, the machine either continues to Mac OS X or reboots to the specified OS. The next time the computer is rebooted, it automatically returns to Mac OS X and the boot picker.

BootPicker was designed to meet the needs of both end-users as well as system administrators managing the mass deployment of hundreds or thousands of dual-boot Macs.

What's new in this version:

  • Overhauled how the BootPicker Preference Pane presents the Windows and Linux boot volume settings. This now forces the setting to be saved via the device ID rather than the volume name which (really) resolves intermittent issues with Windows not booting and instead reporting "Error loading operating system." This small change also allows BootPicker to present a Windows volume even if it is not mounted.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel

Additional Requirements:

  • Intel-based Macintosh
  • Mac OS X Leopard
  • Mac OS X Server Open Directory Master (tested with 10.4.9 Server) or Apple Remote Desktop 3+ for large deployments
  • Another BIOS-based Operating System (Windows or Linux)
  • Autologin must be disabled

BootPicker ReviewExcellent Product and Support! - Version: 2.1.1, 3/5/2008 03:57PM PST

Previous versions didn't work with Bootcamp installed on a separate internal drive because the drive's name was apparently "null". Mike fixed this problem in a few days. What more could I ask? I email about a problem and he fixed it. For free.

In addition to that, people might want to know the following:

It works when Windows is installed on a separate drive from the Mac OS (I'm running 64-Bit Vista Ultimate); and it works when Windows is on the same partition as the Mac OS.

It also works with Timbuktu Pro. TB2 can access your Mac when it is sitting idly at the BootPicker screen. Their BP info also states it works with Apple Remote Access too.

I'm very impressed and pleased and appreciative. Thanks Mike!

BootPicker 2.0.1 fails to work with Leopard on newest 20" iMac (Jan 2008). apple.com.education.bootpicker.plist does seem to reflect changes made by bootpickers preferences! YMMV
