CamMail CommentaryDisappointed - Version: 1.1, 1/18/2008 12:00AM PST

Sophya
While the developer is off to a good start, I was disappointed to discover the following in the demo of his program:

1. Unless you use Apple Mail, (which I don't, preferring instead to use good ole reliable and feature-rich Eudora), this app is useless. It should be stated under system requirements on the VT page that Apple Mail is required. The author does state this on his web page, however, but not everyone will take the time to visit the web page. They will download the app from VT, as I did, with the expectation that it may work with any email client.

2. I could find no way to save an audio or video message in the app, in case I wanted to send it later. The only option seemed to be to either send the message immediately, or else quit the program and lose the recorded message upon closing.

3. The pink GUI is really an eye sore, and is totally out of place with the much more conservative Apple GUI. At the very least, make the app skinable, so the user can choose from a list of skins which might be more pleasing to his/her taste.

4. Upon launching the app, you are reminded to register. Upon hitting the record button, you are again reminded to register. If you click on the Help menu option, you are taken to a web page where you are again reminded to register, before seeing the short FAQ lower on the page. This is really overkill, and an annoyance. Most Mac computer users are smart enough to get the message with the first registration reminder when the program is first launched.

5. A 15 second demo audio or video message is way too short, and does not allow the potential buyer to really test the app to its full potential. Other than the author's word, we have no way to prove that the app can handle larger/longer recordings without encountering problems.

Due to the above points, I found no motivation to purchase this product.

Thanks, Larry H, for your great suggestions. You can expect many of these to appear in the new release of CamMail.

CamMail CommentaryMake this program available from within Mail - Version: 1.0.2, 1/1/2008 04:32PM PST

This program would be much easier to access if it were available from within Mail simply as a button to record Audio or Video in the Toolbar of an email window.

This is the way that iVoiceMail worked, but iVoiceMail has not updated and it does not work for me under Mac OS 10.5.
