How come a little freeware app like Drawberry can get gradients right while spendy apps like Intaglio, VectorDesigner and similar apps offer lousy gradient control? Anyone? Anyone? I'm a little confused why my drop shadows only respond from a filled-shape's stroke (outline) instead of the entire object (i.e., offset the shadow a little bit and you'll see that it's a shadow ring and not an actual drop shadow representing the entire filled object), but maybe I'm missing a property somewhere. Nevertheless, Drawberry is free so I won't complain. I'm always on the lookout for lightweight (yet powerful) apps like Drawberry to replace Adobe's bloatware (in this case Illustrator) when it comes to my needs to quickly edit or whip up a vector graphic without wasting the time (and the computer resources) necessary for booting Illustrator as well as leaving it open in the background.

If only someone would take a serious stab at Photoshop (Pixelmator just doesn't cut it, not even on the lightweight end). I know there are plenty of artists who would love a lightweight image processing app to take over light-duty Photoshop tasks, and who would in addition pay handsomely for an actual full-blown Photoshop alternative that truly leverages the available, under-the-hood Mac OS X technologies. It's been sad to watch Adobe product-potential be continually stunted by the limitations imposed by the staggering level Windows entropy, something that is always inherent to software that is developed as cross-platform.

never got a chance to try it on my MBP. Crashed every time I tried to draw or enter text.

DrawBerry CommentaryWhere are the instructions? - Version: 0.5, 5/14/2008 06:18PM PST

From all I could find out, this is an excellent application which is also esthetically pleasing, but to use it is almost like solving a puzzle. Help is not available and I could not find a website with instructions. You have to guess how to do things and the guesses are not always right.

I suggest adding a text file with basic instructions to the download. This would not require any programming and could be done fast.

The dev's site isn't working in Safari 2.0.4, so that made me nervous off the bat. I couldn't get any info, manual, etc. and when I downloaded the app... that was it.. no manual. I launch it and can't find a clear bezier tool to use, also every time I grabbed a menu to move it, it doesn't repond till you try it the 2nd time. I was exicited to try this because of the glowing reviews below, but I've found that this needs to come long way before it's a quick practical alternative to Adobe Illustrator. Yes, yes... I know, I know... it's free and all, but I just hope with this review udders won't get their hopes up like I did and waste time with it. If this gets closer to what Pixelmator is compared to Photoshop (a quick, snappy less powerful alternative for when you just need the basics) then I would love it. Illustrator has become a bloated monster and I'll love a basic alternative, but as of 0.
5 this isn't it, yet. That said, thanks go out to the dev for at least trying!

This is an excellent, if simple, vector drawing app, and it's free... I don't know why no-one else is praising the developer for it. Let's hope DrawBerry will be developed further.
