Apple Security Update CommentaryDon’t Care - Version: 2009-005, 11/13/2009 07:34AM PST

All went well on the update, but I do not care about what is in a security update. I just do it and re-pare permissions. I did before this get Safari coming up with the message “word leaks” and have not since.

Apple Security Update CommentarySeems OK - Version: 2009-005, 9/11/2009 05:38AM PST

I noticed that this update spent an unusually long time on the Configuring Installation stage right at the start, particularly on my G4, with the sound of lots of disk activity. After that it went OK, although also quite a long restart. The usual Shockwave permissions to repair because of the Flash update, of course. All seems well, though.

iBookG4 and DP G5 10.4.11

I rarely post on VT unless something exceptionally good or bad happens. I've been an exclusive advanced Mac User since 1987... this update on my Intel Core Duo MacBookPro15 went very very smooth as most of these update do (for me). After the update... everything on my Mac has speeded up 10-15%, graphics are clearer and render quicker, all my applications just seem to start-up quicker and close/quit without incident. Typically... this doesn't happen... or there is some minor issue/sluggishness after an update. I always run applejack AUTO before an update... then use Software Update to update... then let the system restart until I get a complete reboot... then restart again and run applejack AUTO (and then clear the user caches)... then restart again. Very very pleased with this update. Daily use of the following applications... WebKit (nightly downloads), FireFox 3.5.2, MicroSoft Office 2008 (mostly Entourage), Skype (latest beta), FileMakerPro9 Advanced, DreamWeaver CS3, Ready-Set-Go 7.8(beta), still use an older version of AppleWorks, AudioHiJack, BBedit, Fetch, several plugins too numerous to mention. By the way... been a loyal daily VersionTracker viewer/user since they first launched... what a great service to the user community.

Installed 2009-003 on my G4 iBook and G5 tower, both without apparent issue. Usual stack of Shockwave permissions to repair. Note that this security update does not force you to upgrade to Safari 4 (unlike what we read about the 10.5.8 System update), so you can continue to use Safari version 3 on lower-end systems. Like my G4.

Apple Security Update CommentarySoftware Update vs. Stand-alone - Version: 2009-002, 5/13/2009 05:18AM PST

pendragon
I downloaded the stand-along for a G4/DP 800/10.4.11. When I attempted to install, I was advised that it could not be installed. Perhaps I had a bad DL, I dunno. But when I attempted the update via Software Update, it installed as advertised.

A subsequent run of Software Update indicated only Safari 3.2.3 was required. I installed that via the stand-alone without issue.

Apple Security Update Usage TipInstall Security Update first, then Safari - Version: 2009-002, 5/12/2009 05:10PM PST

Safari 3.2.3 shows up in Software Update after Security Update 2009-002 is installed. So install the Security Update first.

When installed in 10.4.x, previous versions have created an issue that could result in "Your Network Settings have been changed by another Application".

Does anyone know if this problem is now resolved?

Apple Security Update Troubleshooting Reportbroke my system - Version: 2008-007, 10/17/2008 12:11PM PST

After application of this update (and 3 other Apple updates), my Leopard machine wouldn't start up any more. No good, and the kind of thing that would leave the average user without a machine, making a trip to a possibly far-away Apple store.

My MBP didn't start up in Safe mode either, verbose (Command-V after the startup chime), showed that it stalled after "CSRHIDTransitionDriver ... done".

Startup in single user mode (Command-S), then fsck'ing the harddrive, continuing to boot, logging in and fixing permissions using Disk Utility. Then, reboot. Machine is alive again.

Apple Security Update ReviewBlew off my iCal and several 3rd party utilities - Version: 2008-007, 10/10/2008 08:57PM PST

I applied the fix, and re-started, and iCal, MacScan and 1Password (and a few others that I cannot remember) would not start, or re-set and re-start. I re-booted into Safe mode (hold down SHIFT key while re-starting), and that seemed to cure the issues. BTW, I had tried to roll back the clock to my nearest earlier snapshot in Time Machine, but the Restore button was grayed out. I guess I am lucky that it was, because the Safe re-boot corrected the issues. But, I wonder why I could not Restore with Time Machine.
