ads that tell me 'I just won a ____ ' drive me nuts! As I look at a lot of guitar tab, it ALWAYS has tons of ads (almost one per click). AdBlock stopped them dead.
very easy to install and use. for me I closed safari, opened it and of to no adware land!
kudos to the developer.

Since Safari 3.1 broke PithHelmet I decided to give this one a try. It's worked very well for me so far. It seems to be perfectly compatible with Safari 3.1 and the list it subscribes to is doing an excellent job of blocking. The option to whitelist your own sites is conspicuously absent, but you can add your more filters on your own.
It's not as good as PithHelmet, but I found PithHelmet to be producing some sketchy behaviour after I made it load using the work around (on this site's PithHelmet page comments). If Mike Solomon ever updates PithHelmet again I'll go back to it, but in the mean time this seems to be a decent alternative.

1) Add a subscription to the URL location of your Adblock Plus format whitelist
2) Add individual rules on the "Custom Filters" tab of the Safari Adblock preference pane (part of your Safari Preferences)
I use #2 exclusively as there are only a few sites for which I want to disable adblocking. Adding a custom rule is done through a form which allows you to choose whether to block or unblock particular sites or elements. My custom filters consist entirely of sites that I want unblocked based on the beginning of URL (http://www.hulu.com for example), but yours could be more complicated and even include regular expressions.
Enter rules carefully! The default protocol for entering a rule is https: rather than http:, so you may have to change that via a dropdown menu. Also note whether the site you want unblocked starts with a www or not, for example Hulu URLs generally start with the www prefix. Advanced users could enter a regular express for a website that includes both the www-prefixed address and the website.com address (more simple-minded folk like myself can add the two sites separately).
