TimeMachineScheduler CommentaryAlso try TimeMachineEditor - Version: 2.3.1, 8/25/2008 10:10PM PST

Users looking for longer time intervals and more scheduling options should search for TimeMachineEditor. In my opinion, TME's method of altering the TM plist file rather than running its own daemon is more elegant and less likely to cause conflicts.

TimeMachineScheduler CommentaryNot useful to me - Version: 2.1, 4/7/2008 10:06PM PST

"Unfortunately [TM's] backup interval is preset constantly to one hour."

No, Sir. TM's scheme is preset to backup every hour only in the first 24 hours. Thereafter it creates an incremental backup once every day for a week. And thereafter once every week until the backup disk is full.

So for people who need incremental backups at least twice a day TMS can be a boon. IF it works dependably as advertised.
But how many people need incremental backups at least twice a day?

I am happy with an incremental backup every 2 or 3 days, but once a week is too long an interval for me. So I start and stop TM manually every few days. Now, if TMS could dependably manage incremental backup intervals longer than 12 hours but shorter than a week it would be useful to me. Now it isn't.

TimeMachineScheduler ReviewResponsive developer - Version: 2.0, 3/1/2008 07:34AM PST

I had a small problem with the app, it wasn't clear to me that I had to turn TM off in order for the TMS to work. The developer answered my email almost immediately and was helpful. The application works as advertised, the only fault I find is that when I wanted to eject my external, it wouldn't eject, although TM was not running at the time. I had to turn the external off, which is never a good idea, but the data don't seem to have been corrupted (this time). If this little glitch can be fixed, I would certainly give the full five stars.

I used the invisible check box, it made the disk invisible but now I can't make it reappear?

I didn't like the hourly hard disk crunch.
This allows me to change it to suite my working conditions.

TimeMachineScheduler Commentary24 Hour Backups? - Version: 1.0, 11/27/2007 08:39AM PST

Well that makes no sense.

Overnight or or once a day backups would defeat the whole purpose of TM's incremental backup. If you created/downloaded a file then deleted it, only to find days later that you needed it, it wouldn't be there in Time Machine, which is what's supposed to happen.

If you want overnight backups, get SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner.

TimeMachineScheduler CommentaryIs it possible to do 24-hour backups? - Version: 1.0, 11/26/2007 08:48PM PST

12 hours is better than hourly, but ideally I'd set Time Machine to back up when I'm asleep, once a day--mainly because I set my TM to backup over wireless to another machine's external drive over an 80211g connection (I suppose if I had 80211n it wouldn't be as bothersome). Sweet none the less.
