DietController ReviewThis is NOT a 5 Star Application - Version: 1.21, 5/5/2009 06:30AM PST

DTDunn
I'm a new user to this product, in search of a replacement for CalorieKing, which beyond database updates, is devoid of Mac platform development.

So what's not 5-star about DietController:

1 - The food database is clunky at best. I lunched at KFC one day and could find no reference to this popular store. Well, it is listed as Kentucky Fried Chicken. Who uses that name and what does that say about the "quality" of the food database? I found food entry a pain so far. If I buy this software, I'd likely have to enter all of my foods manually. No entry for Dannon yogurt? Where did they get this database?

2 - The exercise database is equally clunky.

3 - The price is too high.

4 - The software tries too hard to be all things to all people. The screen becomes a data blur, which can be improved somewhat as you customize the options.

That said, the software company seems to respond to customer requests and the software has most of the features I have suggested to CalorieKing for years. I'm not ready to buy yet. The price plus the hassle of database creation has me turned off for now.

DietController CommentaryNice features, a bit pricey. - Version: 1.13, 7/27/2008 07:58PM PST

Of course, it's subjective, but I wouldn't have hesitated to pay 29.95 for this software. $49.95 just seems a bit steep for this particular package. I guess there are enough folks who would kick down for this kind of thing. I just think there would be plenty more if it wasn't priced so high.

I'll pass for now. But maybe I'll come crawling back.

DietController Troubleshooting Reportdouble-click to open, closes right down again - Version: 1.12, 7/12/2008 08:08PM PST

Downloaded DietController, but I can't launch it. I double click, it bounces once in the dock and closes right down again. Suggestions?

iBook G4, OS 10.4.11, plenty of RAM.
