HierarchicalDock ReviewLoads up CPU processing - Version: 1.2, 2/8/2008 12:00AM PST

On my Mac Mini 2.0 Ghz, I find that ejecting DVD's and disk images take 5 to 10 seconds with this program running. Seems to load down the FInder. Uses excessive CPU time. Since deleting it, my computer is now more responsive. However, it's a nice program and the next Leopard update should include something of the type.

HierarchicalDock Reviewalmost the same - Version: 1.2, 2/3/2008 12:00AM PST

though right click opens the list and left click only brings up the dock options (remove/add to dock, open at login...)

there isn't a way to open the folder with one click for some reason.

HierarchicalDock ReviewYES!! I cannot work with Leopard without this!!! - Version: 1.2, 1/21/2008 12:00AM PST

The manager at Apple who decided that the hierarchical menu had to go has to be fired! That was the most stupid decision in the history of Apple.

Thank you so much for developing this must.have, and give it away for free!!!

Of course, it could be a tad faster and quicker to respond, but I can really live with that...

I wanted to kill the guys at Apple for losing this feature. TY, TY, TY so much. Great implementation, and easy to use.

One thing, if possible, how about making it work with the larger folders and layout of Stacks? Not critical, but would look nice. Thanks, again.

Re: "QuickLook thumbnails" option being "the only Preference you can set for now", I meant to say "the only major visual option" -- there are of course the sorting preferences as well.

HierarchicalDock ReviewUPDATE: Now Bug-Free and Fabulous! - Version: 1.1, 12/14/2007 11:22AM PST

Fabulous not only for what it does, the fun and easy way it does it, but especially for the extremely responsive and receptive support from its author:

Not only did he get back right away, and then proceed to eliminate both minor bugs very quickly, he even sent me the new-improved v1.1 directly, saving me the "trouble" of another download!

Be sure and check out the "Use QuickLook thumbnails" option. It's basically the only Preference you can set for now, but I like it a lot.

(Apple Dock Developers, are you paying attention??? Here is an elegant example of form AND functionality-- you CAN have both!)

HierarchicalDock ReviewEXTENSIONS BUG NOT FIXED :-( - Version: 1.1, 12/7/2007 07:40PM PST

John Bertram
Am using 10.5.1 on a smoothly running system (G5 PowerMac, dual 1.8 w 3.5 GB RAM), and just installed 1.1 of HierarchicalDock.

Fun interface; easy to use; like the "QuickLook Preview" vs. Icon option, BUT...

The version note about "Fixed a bug that caused extensions to show in Dock" is sadly not true. At least half of the 15 or so folders I now have in my dock (installed via HD 1.1) have started displaying the annoying ".essdocker" extension.

Also, beware of a SECOND bug/feature/limitation of which I saw no warning in the documentation:

Several of my folders refused to appear in the dock when I dragged them from HD 1.1's window. I finally realized what they had in common -- they were the ones named A/V Production, Info/Data Organizers, Maintenance/Repair, etc.

This program will not work if your folder name has a "/" (forward slash) in its name. Once I renamed the folders to A-V Production, Info & Data Organizers, Maintenance & Repair, etc. everything was fine -- except for that !@#$%^&* .essdocker extension!

Am looking forward to giving this 5 Stars (Apple -- are you paying attention to the NEED for this kind of functionality?) despite the minor annoyance of having to avoid using "/" in my folder names -- but will wait to see how long it takes to fix this extension bug (rather than giving 4 stars now then upgrading later).

And hey -- if the no "/" bug gets fixed too, I'll give 5 stars plus a donation!

Congratulations! The app is working fine here (iMac C2D 3GB/RAM - MacOS X.5.1). Do the same Quay do with the advantage of freeware. Thank you very much for this nice work. ;)

HierarchicalDock Commentarywhy can't this be made to work on the left side of the dock? - Version: 1.0, 11/27/2007 04:22PM PST

funny i wrote this exact same query and somehow the post got deleted.

why do all these dock changing appz only work to add functionality to the right side of the dock. why can't stacks or this appz do the same for the left side? is this impossible to do?

Thank you so much! It really annoyed me that Apple took away this simple functionality. I like Stacks, but sometimes you need to be able to navigate through nested folders just like in previous versions of Mac OS X!

Thanks so much.... I'd be interested to know how this works? Is there a background process running to add this functionality back to the Dock?

Kind regards,

Stuart
