Cocktail Commentary*censored*tail is great indeed...*but*... - Version: 4.1.3, 7/4/2008 05:07PM PST

plaintiger

some time ago, based on user reviews and some feelings of my own about the general design (or something - i forget) of Xupport, i stopped using Xupport and moved to *censored*tail, which has served me well. but i gotta say - with all due respect to *censored*tail, which is a great utility, and no mistake - Xupport's just won me back. for the time being at least. the reasons:

1. as i said earlier, the current version of *censored*tail (4.1.3) can't see an active network interface on my machine even though there is one (my Airport card), and

2. the new version of Xupport (3.4.5) does something that i just discovered, that i really really love, and that *censored*tail doesn't do: it lets me change the colors of my Dock and of the little (and by default, almost invisible) "open" indicators that appear in the Dock below running apps.

this may sound like a superficial thing, but don't knock it until you've made your Dock black with gold "open" indicators. not only is it drop-dead gorgeous, but you can tell what's running at a glance rather than at a put-your-face-six-inches-from-the-screen-and-squint.

i still think *censored*tail's a very great utility (primarily because it is), but right now, by my estimation, Xupport has the edge. vive le compétition! :) (i'm wingin' that, btw. ;)

Cocktail Troubleshooting Reportyou-know-whattail can't see my Airport card - Version: 4.1.3, 7/2/2008 08:36PM PST

plaintiger
just installed 4.1.3 and went to optimize my network parameters and was offered two interfaces: Primary (en0) and Secondary (en1), both of which show as being inactive (i guess these must be the two ethernet ports on my Mac Pro). c.o.c.ktail doesn't seem to be able to see my Airport interface, which is my only active connection to my network.

do i need to restart or something?
