Spiderweb Software, makers of the award-winning Avernum and Geneforge series, happily announces the release of Avernum, the long-awaited, all-new continuation to the Avernum series. This epic fantasy-roleplaying adventure returns you to the enormous underworld nation of Avernum, whose shadowy lands are once again facing horrible peril. Avernum is a nation underground. Its pale people live in endless miles of tunnels, pits, and gigantic caverns. Some come to Avernum to work the mines. Others come to hunt monsters for their treasure. And some risk life in the underworld because it is the only place where a person can be free from the total rule of the Empire.

Version 1.0.4 is a bug fixing release.

What's new in this version:

fixes several scripting errors, including a very rare but unpleasant problem with the Lysstak the Beast fight.

If you like fantasy, monsters, magic, strange lands, mysterious bad guys, and an epic story, this game might be for you. Don't look for amazing 3-D, blow-you-away graphics and sound in a 26MB download, but that's part of the beauty. It's a very good game in a compact format, with a good tutorial to get you started so you can jump right into it and play. You can follow the main story mostly, or go on numerous side quests to buff yourself up or gain more items and treasures. The territory you cover is huge and the story long, so it is a very good value. Not a lot of trash monsters either--ones that are there only to annoy you and not much else. But don't worry, there's still plenty of baddies to pummel, if that's what you want.

This game is really special. After awhile you start to feel like you're inside the game. It's a really fun and fascinating epic of a game. I'd pay double for this.
