Product Description:

Beginning with MacOS X 10.4.0 Spotlight took away the ability to search deeply in your hard drive. You could not search packages nor could you search in invisible directories. Better Search attempts to correct that. While it is not as pretty as Spotlight it does allow one to have greater control over a search. But this comes at a cost. Better search does use a high level of cpu time and memory. You can run multiple searches at the same time, search in packages, search visible and invisible directories and search case insensitive or not. Better Search will also allow you to either only search for Directories or files, or both. Keep in mind when you search that Bundles such as Applications, are considered by the system to be directories. This will possibly be accounted for in a future release but for now you must choose to find either files and folder, or folders if you are looking for applications or other bundles. What's new in this version:

Better Search now allows you to search the contents of a file. Be aware that this is quite time consuming.

I was able to find files I needed to uninstall from root folders Spotlight wouldn't locate. Leopard's Spotlight doesn't give you access to them anymore, which is a HUGE MISTAKE. For the price of the new Mac Pro's you'd think you'd get a better search engine, not one that does less. It's slow because it's more thorough than Mac's old Find, but worth the wait. Thanks for making this app. I don't know if it's possible, but maybe the developer can make it do a quicker search at some point by giving us the choice to choose visible or invisible files. Great Job in creating this!

Download BatchSpot'em - it enables you to add your own Spotlight keywords to a batch of Finder items.

Better Search ReviewI'll Keep This One Handy! - Version: 1.1, 11/14/2007 11:50AM PST

Since Leopard my Finder suffers Alzheimer's. It can't find a simple file, i.e. plist files in the Preferences folder unless I'm already in the User/Library. The weird behavior of the new Finder ticks me off. I'd rather tolerate the long time it takes to search the whole drive for one file than fighting with the new Finder.

Thanks!
