Product Description:

DropImageURL is a drop application which images full web pages into graphics files. You can invoke this functionality in several ways:

  • Drag URLs from your browser's location field onto the Dock icon
  • Select "Image Browser URL" from the Dock menu to image the front window of your browser
  • Select "Image URL" from the DropImageURL menu in your applications Services menu when a text selection is a URL.
  • Drag "webloc" (web location) files onto the Dock icon or application
  • Drag URLs directly from your web browser's displayed pages onto the Dock icon

Once the program begins processing the URL it will display a status window which monitors the progress of the download prior to imaging.

Select "Preferences..." from the application menu, or the Dock menu, to specify various options:

  • Scale image by a given percent
  • Specify image format (tiff, jpeg, etc.)
  • Set comment to location URL
  • Overwrite files by same name, or append a unique ID to differentiate
  • Show status window
  • Bring application to front
  • Open image file in default image viewer
  • Select image file in the Finder

DropImageURL is part of the Limit Point Software Utility Bundle. One donation activates all the software. Upgrades always free! Visit http://www.limit-point.com/Utilities.html for more details.

What's new in this version:

  • Added a status window which displays URL download progress. After tyhe imaging is complete the window's proxy is set to the image file.
  • When the option to overwrite files by the same name is deselected the image is saved under a new name, which is derived from the original name by appending a UUID to it.
  • The Help menu now takes you to the products home page on the web.
  • Added options to Preferences for displaying the status window automatically during imaging, and for bringing the program to the foreground.
  • Bug fix: If no output folder was selected the "Go to Output Folder" functionality was not opening the default location, namely the Desktop folder.

Why would you make an app that is not even needed... It's like making an app that teaches one how to chew bubble gum.

What do I mean?

Well well well... Print to PDF is built into OSX. You go to a page and print it. The sheet will drop down and PDF will be an option in the bottom left of the window.

If you wanna get fancy you can have Preview save it out as a jpg, tif, gif, or png.

Nothing wrong with reinventing the wheel. But when you charge for it make sure that it's not so easy to reveal that you are taking advantage of the general n00b population.

No I have not tried it... I also have never tried smoking crack, yet know it's not something that I want to use.

And no, I'm not comparing DropImageURL to smoking crack... or am I? :)

First of all, it's donation NAGWARE -- you are presented with a dialog that you must wait to dismiss whenever you use it.

Second of all, you need to save a webloc to the desktop first, like by dragging the blue sphere from Safari, THEN drag that to the app icon.

Third, the icon is kind of hard to hit for a droplet... it is small, with a lot of mask. Would be better if it was in a square.

Fourth, it took several MINUTES for the screenshot I took of this page in Versiontracker to appear on the desktop. Seriously, I thought the thing didn't work , since there is no UI or progress indicator. It finally appeared minutes later. YMMV.

I see not reason to use this, much less donate for it when other alternatives like Paparazzi exist and have more features and a real UI.
