I sat down and did some head to head comparisons of various mac finance applications. I own iBank and Intuit's Quicken. I also tried MoneyDance and Cha-Ching. iCompta was at least as good as iBank and Quicken. It was better than MoneyDance and Cha-Ching. iCompta is a REAL finance application that is perfect for managing my various home accounts. It has beautiful graphics but not just for the sake of eye candy (I'm looking at you iBank). Color coding categories works well. You can break down your expenses by categories. Select two accounts to see a combined break down (like both your checking and credit card). Or see where your credit card is being used separate from your checking.

The reconcile process is easy partly because the application has very fews preferences to set. It is clean and straight forward. The importing process is easy as well, using smart rules to auto assign categories during import. There is even a companion iPhone application for $6.

Cons: The smart rules are simple enough but could be more flexible and intuitive. Slow window refresh when switching accounts. I would also like the ability to project account growth into the future using existing data. This application could definitely benefit from having smart folders.

After a week of testing all of the above mentioned applications, I settled on iCompta and sent a $30 donation for this well done application.
