okay, a sound conversion utility that can't open MP3 files?

i'm obviously missing something, but i can't see for the life of me what that would be. "Preferences" is grayed out and i don't see any commands i can issue from the app's interface except "Open...".

so how do i convert an MP3 file to an AIFF? or is that not the kind of operation the developer has in mind when he calls this a "converter for multiple sound file formats"?

It's freewae. Thanks,

It's too bad it doesn't deal with the audio formats I need -- Monkey's àudio (APE) primarily, but it also doesn't convert stone age formats like MS Wave (PCM and its family) to MP3 or OGG. If it did that, Almost everything else would be just quirky, and therefore acceptable in freeware.

If you need this functionality in freeware for MAC, take a look at COG for playback and MAX for conversion. Booth free, and IMHO both better.

Would not recognize properly-formed flac files, i.e. files remained "grayed" out. Am I missing something?

Intel MacBook Pro OSX 10.4.10

Trying to convert 16 bit AIFF (Audacity) to 8 bit so I can import into iTunes. iSoundFile crashes frequently when I try to choose a folder into which to convert, or when actually converting. Has crashed in 4 of 6 attempts to use. Also no easy way to batch convert.
