Product Description:

AIM: to become the best VNC client on the Mac.
BACKGROUND
When I started ScreenRecycler I thought that there are enough VNC clients out there to support it. When the program started to get useful I realized that the VNC clients available on the Mac were pretty slow and people were complaining about the speed of ScreenRecycler. I was using VNCThing at the time which proved to be acceptable on PPC Macs but does not run on Intel Macs. Without a proper viewer people can't access ScreenRecycler in a way I imagined. So I started programming JollysFastVNC to enable people using ScreenRecycler.
As I got a few mails about the VNC capabilities of JollysFastVNC I decided to enhance the program to be a fully functional VNC client. It's still in the early stages of development, even though somewhat usable and fast as you can see here.

JollysFastVNC ReviewMaybe it's snow leopard... - Version: 0.98.44, 9/21/2009 05:28PM PST

Maybe it's Snow Leopard, but this has a *LOT* of trouble connecting to my PC at the office (XP box running RealVNC)...just get a black screen most of the time. Hitting the close widget gives the spinning beach ball requiring a force-quit. At least under Snow Leopard, this is nowhere near ready for prime time, but, hey, it's an alpha version.

JollysFastVNC CommentaryWell maintained and respectable application - Version: 0.98.38, 9/2/2009 01:16PM PST

This application has been well maintained as you can see from the number of updates. It seems to be quite stable and has just enough features.

Screen Sharing has been neutered on the OS, Chicken of the VNC is dead and Remote Desktop by Apple is just too bloated (read: expensive) for most users; this app seems to make the most sense for my use right now.

Finally, the application seems to handle all VNC servers that I have attempted to use it with thus far: RealVNC, UltraVNC, TightVNC, bonjour/screen sharing enabled Macs. It has also worked with the Linux-based VNC servers.

P.S. The icon is much improved! Joy! :)

JollysFastVNC ReviewAlmost ready for prime time - Version: 0.98.32, 7/18/2009 05:31PM PST

Dr. T
I've been a long time Chicken of the VNC user. That program has always worked quite well, but is slow. JF is significantly faster. Congratulations. The last version had a problem which was a deal breaker, the lack of reliable CRTL key command transmission on Macs (I have a MacBookPro (Intel, 10.5.7) that I use to access my Dual 2.3GHz G5 running OS X 10.4.11). Now that you've fixed the problem, I'm going to give JF an extended try.

One thing I would like to see: the ability to control the rate at which cursor movement at the sides, top, or bottom of the local screen causes the remote screen to move. Currently, it appears that when the cursor reaches a threshold, the remote screen moves entirely the opposite way. This can make it difficult to "fine tune" where you want the cursor to go on the remote screen. One needs to re-orient oneself after each quantum movement. Can you create a slider that allows one to SLOWLY make the remote screen move when the cursor reaches its edges?

Thanks for considering this. Also, I'm a strong supporter of open source software, freeware, and shareware. So, I will be happy to pay once you've reached the fc stage.

Finally, can't send email to jolly@jinx.de. For some reason, I get an error message with the address (SMTP Protocol Error: 550 5.1.1 <Suggestion>... User unknown).
