ChangeMAC CommentaryReason for java errors - Version: 1.5.1, 2/5/2008 12:00AM PST

mike.christian1
I think that I found the reason for the java errors given before. If you look at the getAirport and getEthernet scripts in the Contents/Resources folder under ChangeMac.app (the sources aren't current), they grep for using the -A25 option. For my computer with configured proxys, the MAC address lines are well beyond 25 lines down. If I used vi to change the scripts to look further in to the information structure, then ChangeMac would launch.

ChangeMAC CommentaryOther changes - Version: 1.5.1, 2/5/2008 12:00AM PST

I also had to change setAirport because the 10.5.1 version of the airport command does not have the --mac option. I then had to change setA to call setAirport directly without using osascript.

ChangeMAC ReviewWorks great for me. Surprised at these other comments - Version: 1.5.1, 1/22/2008 12:00AM PST

I'm on a MacBook 2.16 GHz running 10.4.11, and it works great for me.
maybe you just need to try it a couple times when it fails.
like any old NES gamer, keep pushing the button.

This program gives it the K.I.S.S.
I like that.
and it works.
and it isn't a source of headaches.
I reccomend it.

Suggestions to Developer:
It could benefit from a memory of previous MACs I've used
I like that in MacDaddyX I don't have to type the colons, but that's all I like about that app.

Caveat:
I launched another app MacPilot only once and after that ChangeMAC does not work in my user. there's no GUI
However, it works fine in another user so this has probably got nothing to do with ChangeMAC.
I'm gonna go bash MacPilot right now.

P.S.
The developer, Gerard Briscoe, is an awesome guy.
Despite the fact that MacPilot caused the problem and this isn't his responsibility, he has sent me 6 emails to support this problem, and has even gone beyond the support I've gotten from AppleCare.
All this on top of his thesis!
What a nice guy!

Can someone please explain why this is needed? Is it supposed spoof your IP address on the Internet?

When I run it all it does is disconnect me from the Internet and I have to restart to get it back.

If it spoofs the IP address on the internet, I think that is great, if it works. If that what it is supposed to do?
