iToner Reviewupgrade buggy - Version: 2.0.4, 10/1/2009 08:21PM PST

When iToner works, it is very nice, but every iPhone upgrade deletes all the ringtones, and every iToner upgrade locks up and requires several rebootings. Even then this latest upgrade doesn't seem to even allow downloads from iToner. This software needs someone to fix all the bugs.

iToner ReviewVery easy to use - Version: 2.0.1, 4/1/2009 07:56PM PST

I gave up on another program just before I tried this. It was very easy to use, and in only a few minutes I had "our song" on both of our iPhones. Excellent software.

Last time I played a bit with a previous version of this app and an iPhone v1, I had to restore it from scratch.

This time with an iPhone 3G I added some ringtones, removed them and lost 4Gb on my iPhone with now way to get them back. Once again it leads to a complete restore.

So sorry, I won't try it again and I definitively won't buy it.

Wow! Itunes 8 is released and then iToner is updated the same day! You can't beat that kind of support.

Yes it is true that after an iTunes, or iPhone update you may have to re-sync your ringtones. So what? It took me all of 40 seconds.

This is a great and simple app. In my opinion, well worth the money.

iToner CommentaryWhy not use iTunes? - Version: 1.0.6, 4/21/2008 03:50AM PST

Why not use iTunes to convert your .wav or .mp3 ringtone into a iPhone ringtone?

1. open the original .mp3 or .wav ringtone in iTunes
2. select the ringtone in iTunes and using the Advanced menu, convert it to AAC
3. drag the newly created AAC version of the ringtone from iTunes to your desktop
4. rename the extension to .m4r to make it a iPone ringtone
5. drag it back into iTunes, and sync your iPhone

I've tried iToner a couple times since it first came out. I do admire how Ambrosia works to make this work as it does without any actual "hacking" like jailbreaking requires. But for something I'd have to pay for, I shouldn't have to wait weeks on end for a fix when each iPhone software updates "breaks" iToner. Even now, there is no support for 1.1.4, and that's been out about a month now? A second problem is that syncing the iPhone wipes off the ringtones that iToner puts on there, thus requiring you to re-run iToner to re-add them after each sync. What a nuisance!

The simpler solution is to use an app called MakeiPhoneRingtone. Drop any AAC file on it and it converts it to a ringtone and adds to the iTune Ringtone Library. It's free... it works... and it works PERFECTLY, even with 1.1.4.

Weird. They were there before I updated iTunes, now they're gone... Man it would be cool if I didn't have to do this over and over again...Not Ambrosia's fault per se, but doesn't make me want to pay the shareware fee. It does work flawlessly though. :)

Just updated to 1.0.6 but it now crashes every time I try to sync my iPhone. I have loved the ringtones when itthey'ves worked but I'm increasingly frustrated by how quickly it fails.
