Refresh Finder Usage TipEnsure you copy LOCALLY first - Version: 1.3, 10/14/2009 06:11PM PST

ClassicUser
Many users seem to be confused by a "?" icon, and the unavailability of the app when they try to use it. Just like ANY application which you want to keep available, be sure you copy this locally (to /Applications, or perhaps /Applications/Utilities), THEN drag from there to your Finder toolbar.

I'm very impressed that the author has kept this simple, but incredibly-useful script updated as Apple has tweaked the default toolbar design from Tiger, to Leopard, and now Snow Leopard. An excellent utility, which fulfills a definite need for many users, and does so with style. Kudos to the developer…

Refresh Finder CommentaryCopy to the right place - Version: 1.3, 9/14/2009 01:54PM PST

ol_pip - you skipped a step in the installation process. You must copy the Refresh Finder app from the mounted disk image to your Applications folder (or, preferably, to the Utilities folder); from there you can place it in the window tool bar and it will work as advertised. This is the same mistake people often make when installing Firefox: they will drag the app from the dmg to the dock rather than to the Applications folder. Thereafter, every time they launch Firefox, the dmg mounts and, unbeknownst to them, the app will run from the mounted disk image. This can impact application behavior. And, if they dispose of the Firefox dmg file, the app will no longer work. It appears that Apple's drag and drop install procedure is just too simple for some people.

Refresh Finder ReviewNo good for me. - Version: 1.3, 9/12/2009 12:24PM PST

I placed as directed and closed off the dmg, but as soon as I do that it turns into a Question Mark. Upon clicking said Question Mark it opens the dmg again. Wonky to say the least. 10.4.11
