Apple Numbers ReviewNot that great - Version: 1.0.1, 12/10/2007 03:47PM PST

it_is_today (Kino Studios)
It has a *decent* interface, nothing spectacular, and it's missing many features. Like, why is it that I can't import CSV files? Shouldn't that be a pretty basic thing? Or what if I want pasted numbers to go across columns instead of across rows? The graphs do not make it easy for you to specify what data you want to go where, what is the independent and dependent variables, etc. All in all I'm very disappointed, and I've also wasted way too much of my time trying to get this thing to do what I want. For shame Apple, for shame...

Apple Numbers ReviewDoes not import Open Document Formats (from OpenOffice.org or NeoOffice, and some xls files - Version: 1.0.1, 10/20/2007 10:41PM PST

I don't know why Apple needed this, since it is incompattible with the Open Document format, and even fails to import some older .xls file. OpenOffice.org (under X11) or NeoOffice are faster and
read all files.

Although I greatly appreciate the design and usability (far better than Excel), Numbers is absolutely too slow when working with large datasets (>10,000 rows of data). Specifically, Find and Save are much, much slower than Excel 2004 (MacBook 2.16 GHz with 2 GB RAM, OSX 10.4.10). Its nice for making and formatting lots of small tables, but for analyzing large datasets... unusable.
