Product Description:

Shion (and the included userspace driver) implements portions of the INSTEON command set and allows users to build a list of devices that can be controlled remotely. This application (and driver) is currently under development and will be extended and completed as time permits. The long-term goal for Shion is to package it as a reusable framework for other MacOS X developers.

What's new in this version:

This is a minor bug fix and user interface enhancement release. I’ve cleaned up the interface slighhtly and added support for an optional status bar icon (this may be dis/enabled in the preferences). When used with software like Dock Dodger, the main Shion dock icon may be hidden and the status icon used instead. Requires Leopard.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC

Additional Requirements:

  • SmartHome PowerLinc USB.
  • Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard".

Shion Troubleshooting Reportnot working for me yet - Version: 1.0b5, 2/1/2008 12:00AM PST

versiontracker.3.ohthetrees
I have a Powerlinc V2 USB and a Switchlinc V2, and I'm having trouble getting Shion to control the Switchlinc.

I've followed along with this page:
http://www.audacious-software.com/products/shion/getting-started.html
but I'm still having problems.

The address printed on my Switchlinc is: 0C.8E.C4, which I typed into the Shion "address" field without the periods.

However, I never gain control of the device. AFTER my failure, I installed a trial verion of Indigo. That worked right away, so I'm confident my hardware and wiring is correct.

The directions in the box that came with the Switchlinc mentions holding down buttons, etc. I didn't bother with any of this because it wasn't mentioned in your directions.

I'm aware of the conflict with the Indigo over-ride extension in /System/Library/Extensions. I tried Shion before I ever installed Indigo, and I removed the kext once I confirmed that the hardware was working with Indigo, so I'm confident that isn't the problem.

If you have any troubleshooting hints, I'd appreciate it. If there is any other information I could provide (logs, etc) I'd be happy to.

thanks,
Cedar

Shion Developer NoteShion not working? Have you installed Indigo before? - Version: 1.0b5, 1/10/2008 05:54AM PST

If you're having problems running Shion and have installed Indigo in the past, you need to remove a bit of software that Indigo installs into your system that prohibits other applications (such as Shion) from accessing your Insteon hardware. See

My apologies for the inconvenience, and I'll be adding a detector for this file in the next release of the application.
