gSync ReviewWorks great for me - Version: 1.2.1, 1/21/2008 12:00AM PST

Apparently there were some data corruption issues in previous versions, but I started with v1.2.1 using the free trial and it's worked flawlessly so I upgraded to the paid version. In trial mode, the only feature that is disabled is the "scheduled sync" feature, so you have to manually sync. Now that I've paid, I just leave it in the background, syncing every 20 mins. It's worked great, no data corruption, no CPU hogging.

gSync ReviewBuyer beware, use at the risk of your calendar data. - Version: 1.1.1b, 11/27/2007 09:05AM PST

I tried this product as well as one of it's competitors. I'm very sad to say that both work very poorly in far too many situations for me to trust either one. I followed the gSync troubleshooting list for several months to see if some of the issues I was facing would get worked out, and I've finally given up hope for the time being. I absolutely live by my calendar, and simply cannot afford to have the data be constantly at risk, and have the nagging doubts as to what's been deleted, duplicated, or had it's time accidentally shifted by the syncing process. Whether the issues are because of Google's code changes or gSync bugs is immaterial to me. This product (as well as it's major competitor, Spanning Sync) makes my calendar unreliable, and that is simply a situation I cannot accept.

I love the idea, and I want to see it succeed, but for the moment, I would have to warn anyone off of using this without LOTS of FREQUENT backups and CONSTANT vigilance over one's calendar data. I would rather just subscribe to my Google calendars in iCal for a read-only view than use one of these poorly implemented syncing products and suffer the data loss/alteration nightmares that follow around many users.

If this product becomes stable and reliable, I'll be the first in line to buy it. Until then, I don't need the extra stress of missing appointments.

Although I've paid my shareware fee, I find that this software returns all manner of errors and although I really want it to work, it is not reliable.

I would suggest a period of testing before purchase

gSync ReviewUnreliable product. Not recommended - Version: 1.0.4, 10/9/2007 12:02PM PST

I have been using gSync for some time now, and have experienced nothing but frustration. Synching is erratic, with problems occurring sporadically and unpredictably. Problems include: duplicate entries, entries that disappear from the Google calendar following a sync, and unwanted invitations that appear in all recurring events. I have downloaded a demo of SpanningSync, and so far it has worked without fail. I recognize the shortcoming of SpanningSyc (price, use of their server), however, in addition to the absence of bugs, they have the added advantages that they handle recurring events, they sync alarms correctly, and they perform scheduled syncs in the background; gSync offers none of the above. The gSync website continues to mislead by headlining the claim "duplicates and recurrences solved"; this is not the case. Multiple users have been posting complaints on the developer's Google Group, but fixes are yet to appear (the developers lay the blame at Google's doorstep). In sum, this application is certainly not ready for prime time.

gSync ReviewFantastic utility that works - at a great price - Version: 1.0.1, 7/16/2007 02:49AM PST

Other utilities that sync the Mac iCal with Google Calendar cost alot more (or are from companies people don't like) and require an intemediary server that handles your data***. gSync is a standalone utlity that works well for a once off price.

Highly recommended, however make sure you backup your iCal and your Google Calendar before your first sync just to be sure (syncing always carries some risk).

***This means all of your calendars go through someone elses server before they get to Google. Even if the privacy issues here don't concern you, the fact that you're using a utility that will stop working if that company goes out of business should.

More detailed overview here.

Regards,
Shane.
