Product Description:

SeasonPassGetter (SPG) takes TiVo content and transfers it to iTunes. Its main purpose is to transfer regularly scheduled recordings (Season Pass on TiVo) for viewing on AppleTV and iPod. Will not work with Series 1, Series 3, or DirecTiVos. Please see web site for FAQ/tips.

  • Does NOT require a "hacked" TiVo.
  • Show title, Episode title, Episode description, Episode number, Original air year, and Genre are transfered to iTunes.
  • Options for automatically starting and stopping transfers at preset times. (For limiting network traffic if necessary.)
  • Customizable video height/width/bit rate and audio bit rate.
  • Time for download completion and average transfer rate displayed in progress window.
  • What's new in this version:

    • Fixed an issue with searching in iTunes. Seems as though iTunes searches differently on different Macs. This change should work for every version.

    Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

    • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
    • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC
    • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
    • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

    SeasonPassGetter ReviewRe-downloads shows - Version: 0.14, 1/13/2009 06:54AM PST

SeasonPassGetter works well enough. However, it re-downloads the same shows multiple times. If you change any of the meta data (such as specifying the season, episode ID, episode number, artist, etc) about a show within iTunes before deleting it from the TiVo, SeasonPassGetter will immediately begin to download the show again.

So far, I have found one way to delay this response from SPG until the next time to launch it. If you duplicate the video file in the Finder then delete the original, SPG won't notice until you quit and relaunch it. The only attributes you can change on the original video in iTunes are the checkbox in the playlist and the Not New status. As above, changing anything else will trigger a new download. Then, you can drag and drop the copy into iTunes. It will appear under Movies where you can set all of its attributes.

Unfortunately, this workaround defeats half of the functionality of SPG. That said, it is currently the best solution I have found so far without using Windoze.

The developer does acknowledge this behavior on his website. Based upon the 2007 release of 0.14, it appears that he has stopped work on the application.

SeasonPassGetter Usage TipEssential iTunes preference - will not work if this is set wrong - Version: 0.14, 1/11/2009 08:06AM PST

One important thing to note is that each show is temporarily created at ~/.SPGTiVoShow.mp4, then imported into iTunes. Therefore, you must have the "Copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library" option checked, under iTunes/Preferences/Advanced. Otherwise, when you download a bunch of shows, they will all point to the same temporary file.

    SeasonPassGetter ReviewBest TiVo/Mac Interface Yet - Version: 0.14, 5/22/2008 08:03PM PST

It isn't pretty, but it works, and it is the ONLY software package that seems to work in Leopard (I've tried them all, except Toast, which I consider extortion). It downloads the shows you specify, and sticks them in iTunes. When it's upgraded to use a standard Mac interface, I'll give it 5 stars, and I'll make a cheerful donation to the author.
