Product Description:

smbMount is an smb:// url scheme handler for Mac OS X.

Since the Finder isn't an smb handler, you can't assign the Finder to open smb links from Firefox or Safari. smbMount will pass those links to the Finder using the "mount volume" Apple Event and they will open as in the "Connect to Server..." menu item. It will also handle the incorrect but popular SMB:// scheme. smbMount understands embedded usernames and passwords and will give those to the Finder.

What's new in this version:

  • Now handles URLs with uppercased SMB scheme.
  • Now handles URLs with embedded login info correctly.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 (Intel or PowerPC)
  • Firefox, Safari, or OmniWeb (other browsers should also work)

Hi,

I tried use safari on two Mac Os 10.4 (PPC) machines to open the smb:// link in the webpage. It cannot work on both machines but has the error NSLog of "Finder error: -1708". I checked the error code 1708. It means that the Apple Event was not handled. Can you please check this problem? The smb:// link on our wiki server pages are correct to be open by using browsers under Windows or Linux system. Thanks!

This program is exactly what I needed. I was getting really tired of copying smb:// links and opening up connect to server and pasting the link in. This makes it much easier, just click on the link, and there you go. Connects right to it. Thank you very much for your work.

It does exactly what it says, couldn't be easier to use, completely free, and I've had no problems yet. (and I've used it quite a few times already now)
