Product Description:

Do you have large folders full of files you would like to archive to DVD? The default Mac "Finder" interface to burning DVDs requires you to manually split the folder up into 4GB sections so you can burn it to separate disks.

DVD Spanner solves that problem. Just specify the directory of files, and optionally a name for the disks, and it will automatically span the archive across multiple disks.

DVD Spanner is freeware, meaning you don't need to pay for expensive alternatives. DVD Spanning software for the mac is now free!

What's new in this version:

  • DVD Spanner now stores a searchable library of all archived files so that you can always find your files
  • Minor cosmetic improvements
  • Some bug fixes to how the display is updated

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.4

DVD Spanner CommentaryNice and simple but missed folders - Version: 1.0, 2/14/2008 12:00AM PST

Very easy to use.

However, on my first try, it missed enclosed folders in the folder I was trying to back up. Copied about a third, then said it was all done. Used only 1 DVD even though 2 were clearly needed. Tried various utilities to make sure there were no problems with files, moved the files to a different volume, but it still won't work.

Sorry to say I can't use it. Unless this is some odd problem only with my system, I hope this gets fixed as I couldn't find anything else (Other than maybe Retro$pect) that would do this. If anyone has a solution would be happy to hear it as we could really use this.

After reading the feedback for this app, I think the posters might like Folder Splitter instead. It will divide your files up into folders of whatever size you want (DVD, CD, etc) and then you can burn the folders manually. This would help avoid any burning issues with bad discs, etc.
