Product Description:

Now there’s always something good on TV. With Apple TV, you can enjoy movies, TV shows, music, and podcasts in your iTunes library, plus photos and movie trailers, on your widescreen TV — wirelessly, from your Mac or PC. And beginning in June, you’ll be able to watch YouTube videos, too. Apple TV is now available with either a 40GB or 160GB hard drive.

What's new in this version:

You can manually update your Apple TV using the TV interface by selecting Settings > Update Software. This update is only available directly to the Apple TV, and will not appear in the Mac OS X Software Update application, or in the Apple Downloads site.

A remote attacker may be able to cause a denial of service or arbitrary code execution A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the UPnP IGD (Internet Gateway Device Standardized Device Control Protocol) code used to create Port Mappings on home NAT gateways in the Apple TV implementation. By sending a maliciously crafted packet, a remote attacker can trigger the overflow which may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution. This update addresses the issue by performing additional validation when processing UPnP protocol packets. Credit to Michael Lynn of Juniper Networks for reporting this issue.

Apple TV CommentaryWhat a joke! - Version: 3.0.1, 11/12/2009 04:34AM PST

Apple TV compared to Western Digital is a joke. WD TV Live will play anything that you throw at it!

HD video over HDMI with AC3 or DTS no problem. Apple give the people what they want. You can push the iTunes store just so far then it starts work against you.

Apple TV CommentaryHD size? - Version: 3.0.1, 11/8/2009 07:16PM PST

Well, Apple TV is at this time only available with a 160GB hard drive.
And when, (after I think over a year now) will appear a more decent HDsize with 300 or 500 GB, which avoids until now, that many others and I will purchase an AppleTV?

This update fixed a lot of the issues I had been experiencing (hangs, sync problems and slow response to commands). The new interface is much more responsive and intuitive. Internet radio is a welcome addition as well. Apple TV is much maligned, but it does what it is designed to do and it is a good addition to my pile of audio/video entertainment devices. I do think Apple TV could be, with a little bit more love from Apple, a real player in the multimedia-in-a-box racket.
